Somali Teen Stoned To Death For Being Gay As Village Forced To Look On

somalia-stoned-deathA gay teen in Somalia accused of sodomy was allegedly stoned to death in public while his village was forced to watch.

As originally reported by Identity Kenya (via the gay Muslim group, Somali Gay Community):

Mohamed Ali Baashi, 18 years old gay boy, was buried in a hole up to his chest and then pelted with rocks by fighters from the rebel Al Qaeda link [sic] group Al Shabaab on Friday March 15 in Barawe, Somalia, about 50 miles from the capital, Mogadishu.

In a scene straight out of the Dark Ages, this Somali young man accused of Sodomy was stoned to death by Islamic thugs while horrified villagers were forced to watch.

A rebel judge announced that Baashi, along with an accused murderer, had confessed to their crimes but the murderer received a more lenient punishment. According to the judge, “the one that kill some’one [sic] will be shot because homosexuality is more punishable in Islam.”

“This is their day of justice,” the judge told the hundreds of villagers who had been forced to attend.

Somali Gay Commnity posted three photos [warning: violent and graphic in nature] of the alleged stoning, though Identity Kenya could not independently verify the group’s claims nor were they successful in contacting them.

Somalia is one of over 76 countries in which homosexuality is illegal and is punishable by up to three years in prison.

Facebook account suspended. Perhaps Al-Shabaab complained about the photos. WHY do people continue to naively place content on FB when it’s going to be censored if it can’t be monetized?

Wouldn’t have been much different had Romney bought the White House and the mormons were able to influence legislation.

If the innocent villagers have no power over this, why not just nuke the village, put them all out of their misery.

@Ogre Magi: Nooooo, it’s extremists and radicals who are to be condemned. There are plenty of white-robed golden crowned christianists and mormonists who would do even worse than this if they could. It’s also reasonable to condemn the moderates who won’t confront and stop their radical kin.

I don’t know what to say…the only word that comes to my mind is “horrible.” In spite of all of the homophobia and bigotry in Western countries…at least our societies aren’t like this.

Since the 5th Fleet of the U.S. Navy is parked relatively close in the region, simply ask the U.S. government to direct a couple thousand drones towards getting rid of the terrorist groups in Somalia and Somaliland. It wouldn’t take that long and would bring freedom to the villagers by getting rid of the murderers. It’s a win-win for everyone except the murderous thugs who would be powerless to stop it.

@Daniel-Reader: While it’s a sort of lovely thought to think that someday the US government would employ the navy to protect/avenge some 3rd world homosexuals, I don’t think it’ll happen in my lifetime.

You say, “how sad that religion has such a strong hold on people”

The better thing to say is, “how sad that “loveless religion” has such a hold on people”

      @MuscleModelBlog.com: 12

You say, “In spite of all of the homophobia and bigotry in Western countries…..at least our societies aren’t like this.”

And we should thank God for that too.

And here’s another illustration of what we should also “thank God” for —

      Gay marriage timeline
Most of these countries can be considered Western I guess, or at least close enough.
Year that legislation was introduced in ( ).

      Netherlands (2001)
      Belgium (2003)
      Spain (2005)
      Canada (2005)
      South Africa (2006)
      Norway (2009)
      Sweden (2009)
      Portugal (2010)
      Iceland (2010)
      Argentina (2010)
      Denmark (2012)

These countries are all predominately christian nations.

@Seth: The United States is already at war with Al Shabaab, per the 2001 AUMF resolution passed by Congress. Al Shabaab and Al Qaeda officially merged in February 2012.

On June 7, 2012, the US Department of State put bounties totally 33 million dollars on the heads of Al Shabaab’s 7 most senior commanders.

Al Shabaab, who committed this egregious act, is an enemy of the United States.

@Seth: So while not related to this incident, do know that if given information as to the whereabouts of any of Al Shabaab’s senior commanders, our government will not hesitate to kill them. The United States has previously launched drone strikes inside Somalia against Al Shabaab.
