In the black communities there used to be an admonition: “You have to be a credit to your race,” or “You ARE a credit to your race.” Meaning, you acted in a manner acceptable to the white fokes. It became a vile insult. Now, when I hear one gay man say to another, “You’re giving ammunition to our enemies!” I hear the same thing: act straight and be ‘acceptable.” It’s the same admonition — be a credit to your (gay) race so those other folks will accept us. It’s still a vile insult.

@For Real: I’m no fan of gay stereotypes on TV. So I’m with you so far. Where you lose me is on the GM stuff: I’m not a fan of the guy, and just know the stuff about him that pops up periodically on the news. But he’s always really seemed like just another messy celebrity à la, I don’t know, Britney or Lindsay or Mel or Amy or whoever. The fact that he happens to be gay never struck me as his distinguishing characteristic so much as his belonging to the “messed-up celebrity” club.
Or are we saying that all gay celebrities have a duty to lead exemplary lives?

why doesn’t everyone stop acting like george was dan white? the fact is that ANYONE who prays for ANYONE to die is FUCKED UP and doesn’t represent any God anyone would recognize. ignore them, they can’t get anymore traction with the majority of Americans than pat bucahnan or jerry falwell could when they were attacking us at the begining of the pandemic. it is possible some could be dangerous to individuals and a certain amount of caution would be prudent should you meet one in person, but, they constitute no real threat to the movement. NOR DOES GEORGE. LIGHTEN UP!!

to assume that just because someone was sick and is gay they have HIV is just stupid!!!!!!!!!!! I ,myself am not gay…and dont have HIV but did have this same type of pneumonia in july and am just now getting back on track with my life! This pneumonia is like a new strain of it and its hard to get rid of it really knocks a person for a loop.
so dont assume he has HIV because he is sick and gay!!!!!!
The main point here is a group of people preaching the bible proudly prayed that he would die.. what kind of god would teach that! Im pagan and even our religions do not teach that! and then brag about it on line did these peoples parents teach any of them respect at all… wow all this just blows my mind…

Sometime as people…we pray for the suffering to end when we see terminalyl ill family and friends living each day with pain…it is the miracle of life that brings us into this world and it should be that same miracle, in any faith that we should reach out to…for everyone, friend or foe.
