Geraldine Ferraro, First Lady VP Hopeful, Is Dead

Geraldine Ferraro, who in 1984 became the first woman on a presidential ticket (with Walter Mondale), died at Massachusetts General Hospital surrounded by her family after suffering from blood cancer complications. She was 75.

      @kate kinne: Rep. Chisolm was the first woman to run for the Democratic nomination. Ferraro was the first woman on the ticket of either major party.

      I sort of lost something for her when she insinuated that the only reason Obama won was because he was black. She somehow failed to notice – or comment upon – that the same could be said for Hilliary’s gender and performance. Understandable, I guess, for a staunch Clinton supporter.

      An interesting woman, and a life well lived.
