Gillian Jacobs And Abby Elliott Pick Lesbian “Life Partners”

life-partners-templateOne of the most talked-about features of this year’s Tribeca Film Festival selections is Life Partners, a flick starring former Gossip Girl Leighton Meester as a frumpy lesbian and Community’s Gillian Jacobs as her hetero best friend. The plot of the movie centers around how Meester and Jacobs’ friendship (“life partnership”) changes when Jacobs starts seriously dating a man (played by Meester’s real-life husband Adam Brody).

Queerty stopped by the red carpet to talk to the stars about the film. We asked Jacobs if it was weird to get cozy with Meester’s then-boyfriend and now-husband.

“I mean, a little,” she said. “But it wasn’t too weird. I’d actually known Adam for a long time. It’s always a little bit awkward to kiss a guy that you’ve known for years. And then, yes, they were together as a couple. But they’re very relaxed and calm and chill. So I’m like the most nervous one. They didn’t appear to give a crap about it.”

We also asked Jacobs what she thought of couples like Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie and Kristin Bell and Pax Dickinson, who have committed not to get wed until gay marriage is legal nationally.

“I think it’s great,” Jacobs said. “I’m not married. No plans there for me.”

We asked former SNL star Abby Elliott, who plays a supporting role in the film, who she’d like to be lesbian life partners with and she chose Angelina Jolie. “I just want to have a life with her, and adopt kids,” she offered.

Life Partners screens this week in New York.
