The GLAAD Media Awards, where celebrities are handed trophies for RSVPing and television networks earn accolades for their shows based on how many zeroes their underwriting checks have, were held last night in NYC. Unlike year’s past, there are only going to be three GLAAD award ceremonies this year (thrice the fundraising!) instead of the usual four, so if you didn’t get a chance to see Ricky Martin and Andy Cohen throwing back “ROKK vodka cocktails” (we got paid $10 to write that), there’s still Los Angeles and San Francisco. But last night in New York, in an awards ceremony not televised on LOGO, True Blood won something, as did Martin (taking home both an establishment trophy and winning for his appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show), and Anderson Cooper 360. I think it was for being gayish?

Queerty is non-PC. It doesn’t get into bed with anyone. You can be Right or Left and you’ll still be criticized.
It’s refreshing to come here and read points of view that haven’t been pre-packaged and polished according to the Gay Inc school of niceties and “not wanting to hurt our friends”. The only way we’re going to win full equality is if we are as merciless with the friends who mis-treat us as we are with the enemies who mis-treat us.
As for GLAAD, I think it’s very limited in what it actually has achieved. It may as well become defunct.

Well, anything on junky Queerty has to be taken suspiciously, but they’re no worse than the other gay blogs. I mean, really…Towleroad makes up stories, Billerico is a bunch of malcontent goofballs. Joe My God isn’t too bad, as far as more careful reporting. But ALL of them are for a bunch of unemployed readers with too much time on their hands. And GLAAD itself is a complete joke. Could you imagine giving an award to Ricky Martin instead of someone like Maurice Sendak?? Half the children in America grew up with the beloved Where The Wild Things Are. Not that someone like Sendak would be bothered with a GLAAD party, but still…How much $$$ did they waste on that stupid party anyway? Those doing the most for same-sex equality are those uncelebrated guys and gals who are out in their own neighborhoods, moreso than the conceited media bores ever do.
