“Taco Bell Acts Quickly to Remove Transphobic Radio Ad.” That was GLAAD earlier this month getting all excited about how the restaurant chain that’s probably feeding 1 in 5 of America’s children pulled an ad that was offensive to transgender folks. Rob Poetsch, a Taco Bell spokesman, assured GLAAD, “We sincerely apologize as the ad was not meant to offend anyone and as soon as it was brought to our attention, we immediately stopped airing it.” Except they didn’t.
The radio spot went a little something like this:
Some male tells a female (presumably his wife or girlfriend) that it’s a surprise that there is nacho cheese in a layer of the Taco Bell burrito. The woman responds with “Well, I have a surprise for you. I was born male, my name was Claudio” and her voice is lowered several octaves. After which, the male says “Ew.”
But despite the promise to GLAAD the ad had stopped running, and GLAAD commending the company — “It is encouraging to see Taco Bell act so quickly in response to our concerns” — a version of the ad was still playing as of yesterday on Ryan Seacrest‘s radio show yesterday.
“Encouraging,” indeed.
How about we take this to the next level?

Taco Smell’s all but gone out of business. Mexican Chipotle Burrito have usurped the GMO-gross fast food with a high quality burrito and taco with natural ingredients and pretty gay-friendly staff. NO QUIERO TACO SMELL!

Sorry isn’t good enough….Sooooooooorrrrrryyyyyyy.
This should never have been aired the first, or any, time.
Sounds like a really stupid ad as well.

This post is a perfect example of what’s wrong with Queerty. Instead of criticizing Taco Bell for an inappropriate ad, Queerty seems to think it’s GLAAD’s fault.
We get it: You guys at Queerty don’t like GLAAD, HRC, or any other gay organizations. Although some of these organizations may have become ineffective, at least they are trying to do something for us. All you seem to do here is post snarky commentary. The sad thing is that you probably think you’re helping our cause.

Don’t eat this stuff after a bone marrow transplant. In fact, don’t eat it at all.
