AWARDS SEASON

Glee Stars Host 2012 GLAAD Media Awards, Facebook And Wells Fargo To Be Honored

naya-hostingWhen we last left you, GLAAD has recruited stars from Betty White to Jersey Shore‘s Vinny G. to appear at their 2012 Media Awards.

Now they’ve added a few more celebs to the roster: Glee stars Naya Rivera (plays a lezzie on the show) and Cory Monteith will host the NYC incarnation on March 24th, while their co-star Dianna Agron will helm the San Francisco version on June 2nd.

While there’s no host for the L.A. Awards yet, there are plenty of big names: Ellen DeGeneres, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Anna Paquin, Fran Drescher, Molly Shannon, Betty White, Mario Lopez and The Hunger Games hottie Josh Hutcherson.

Millionaire movie mogul Harvey Weinstein will be appearing at the New York Awards to present a special award to Special Recognition Award to Katy Butler. Butler is a gay teen who started a Change.org petition with over 300,000 signatures to get his film Bully downgraded from an R rating so that it can be viewed in schools.

In SF, Facebook, Wells Fargo and Shonda Rimes (of Grey’s Anatomy) will receive Special Honors. Smash producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron will receive the Vito Russo Award in New York, presented by none other than the fabulous Bernadette Peters. GLAAD explains why Facebook is honored:

Facebook will receive a Special Recognition Award for the company’s strong stand and leadership around bullying prevention as well as its inclusive options for LGBT users.  Following anti-gay comments on a memorial page for LGBT youth, Facebook worked with GLAAD to monitor the highly visible page and launched, in conjunction with several LGBT organizations, the Network of Support, which serves in a consultative capacity on issues of importance to the LGBT community like bullying prevention.

Facebook also gives users the options to select “In a Civil Union” and “In a Domestic Partnership,” recognizing the relationships of countless loving and committed same-sex couples. Additionally, Facebook was among corporate leaders that participated in Spirit Day with GLAAD by encouraging employees to turn Facebook photos purple and wear the color on October 20 as a sign of support for LGBT youth.

Queerty will be reporting live from the NYC Awards on the 24th, look for video interviews with all the stars on the red carpet the next day!
