Go: Oklahoma City

OK City Memorial

One thing we really hate here at Queerty are those who live in the blue states snubbing their nose at the midwest. We love the middle of the country, especially Oklahoma City.

The city lays claim to the United States’ largest gay hotel, the Habana Inn. Totally kitsch with wood paneling and stone walls in the room, the complex boasts a gay restaurant, two pools, a Country & Western bar, and a disco. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and although the place is a little cruisey the patrons are nice, down to earth people.

Other bars are close: The Park, a video bar featuring shows by Oklahoma City’s #1 drag queen Shantel Mandalay. When we met Miss Mandalay she shared her nachos, that she was eating at the bar, with us. Another neighboring bar, Tramps was exactly what you’d expect with a name like that.

The city itself contains two must sees: The Oklahoma City Bombing Memorial, a perfectly designed memorial, and the National Cowboy Hall of Fame. It is the people of Oklahoma City we love the most, full of good cheer and hospitality.
