Gold Medalist Skier Bode Miller: Russia’s Anti-Gay Laws Are “Ignorant” And “Embarrassing”

bode-miller

It is absolutely embarrassing that there are countries and people who are that intolerant, that ignorant. But it’s not the first time we’ve been dealing with human rights issues since there were humans….

“I think it’s crappy that we don’t have a better system dealing with that. Asking an athlete to go somewhere and compete and be a representative of a philosophy and all the crap that goes along with it and then tell them they can’t express their views or say what they believe I think is pretty hypocritical.

“If they let me make the rules I will switch it for you immediately, I can solve a lot of stuff really quickly but unfortunately no one has elected me or given me that kind of power. My main emotion when I hear about stuff like that is embarrassment. As a human being I think it is embarrassing.”

I love Bode Miller. He has always marched to the beat of his own drum and not cared what anyone has said about him. His comments are spot on and He also sees how hypocritical the IOC is. As a bonus, we are both native sons of NH and he’s gorgeous, IMO.

Bode is an amazing and much respected Olympian in the light of what is happening in Russia…unlike the silence, if not cowardice of Olympian skaters Brian Boitano, Jeremy Abbott and especially Evan Lysacek.

Sad that a straight athlete is harsher on Russia than most of the gay ones or gay celebs we’ve heard from.

So why don’t these athletes speak up in protest at Sochi, wave a rainbow flag on the podium, whatever? If enough of them participate, what is the IOC going to do, kick out all the best athletes?
