Straight lawmaker accused of using ex-girlfriend’s nude pics to catfish guys into having cybersex

Another day, another GOP lawmaker caught with his hand in the rainbow cookie jar. This time it’s Illinois GOP state Rep. Nick Sauer.

According to Sauer’s ex-girlfriend, Kate Kelly, the 29-year-old freshman lawmaker used nude photos of her to create a fake Instagram account in order to “catfish” other guys into having “graphic conversations of a sexual nature.”

Politico reports:

According to the complaint filed by ex-girlfriend Kate Kelly with the Office of the Legislative Inspector General and obtained by POLITICO, Sauer used the Instagram account “to catfish other men using my privately shared naked photos. Nick would use this account to direct message men with my photos to engage in graphic conversations of a sexual nature. The men believed they were communicating with me and Nick shared private details of my life.”’

Sauer, who is currently running for re-election to a second term, met Kelly on Tinder a few years back. They had a two year relationship that ended after she found out he had been hooking up with other women.

“The man that I loved and honored for over two years unfortunately did not exist,” she tells Politico. “I quickly realized things wouldn’t change and we stopped talking.”

Kelly says she had no idea Sauer was using her photos on the fake Instagram account until a guy who thought he had been communicating with her reached out.

Politico reports:

The complaint says Kelly’s employer helped her determine how long the fake Instagram account had been in use based on when messages were sent, which was close to the time they had started dating. In her complaint, Kelly writes that Sauer admitted as much. “He came to my house & confessed to catfishing men with my photos for 2 years to at least 8 men. He was unable to provide the names and begged that I let it go,” she wrote.

Kelly contacted Instagram to have the account deactivated.

Ironically, Sauer is a member of the state House Sexual Discrimination and Harassment Task Force. The Chicago Police Department is now investigating the matter.

No charges have been filed against Sauer as of yet. So far, he has not issued any comment on the scandal.

Meanwhile, Illinois House GOP Leader Jim Durkin released the following statement earlier this morning: “The allegations that have come forth against Representative Nick Sauer are troubling. He will be resigning from office today. We should allow the proper authorities to conduct their investigations.”
