“Pornography, with his harmful effects, especially on children, has become a public health crisis that is destroying the life of millions. We encourage states to continue to fight this public menace and pledge our commitment to children’s safety and wellbeing.”
That’s an excerpt of an amendment authored by Republican National Committee staff (that weirdly refers to pornography as a “he,” but okay); part of a chunk of new provisions being drafted and discussed as GOP delegates congregate in Cleveland to cement the party’s principles document.
Guns, on the other hand, are totally fine.

How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
Among the other dire offerings: provisions in strict opposition to same-sex marriage, and others that endorse conversion therapy.
Unsurprisingly, The Family Research Council’s Tony Perkins is behind that last one: “We support the right of parents to determine the proper treatment or therapy, for their minor children,” his amendment states.
As Time reports, Perkins’ original draft was far more overt in its embrace of conversion therapy, but it passed the subcommittee after he consulted with FNC officials and subsequently softened the language.

Also unsurprisingly, the subcommittee hardened the platform’s language in its stance opposing marriage equality:
Our laws and our government’s regulations should recognize marriage as the union of one man and one woman and actively promote married family life as the basis of a stable and prosperous society. For that reason, as explained elsewhere In this platform, we do not accept the Supreme Court’s redefinition of marriage and we urge its reversal, whether through judicial reconsideration or a constitutional amendment returning control over marriage to the States.”
Washington D.C. delegate Rachel Hoff later introduced an amendment that would effectively rewrite the GOP’s stance on same-sex marriage to allow a range of voices on the issue. On the verge of tears, Hoff — who is the very first openly gay member of the committee, said, “All I ask today is that you include me and people like me.”
Time reports that her amendment failed by a 3-1 margin.
Apparently, one amendment that claimed same-sex marriage “subverts child’s rights to biological parent” met with audible gasps, and somebody shouting, “Hello, what was that?”
The final platform is expected to be set Tuesday afternoon.

Oh! The children! Think of the children!
Then watch whether any actual living, breathing children are being helped or harmed by those doing the squawking. Sometimes there’s just no correlation.

Hmmm, the right wing republicans are big on the 2nd Amendment but they screw everything else. I personally can see absolutely NO REASON to vote for ANYTHING REPUBLICAN. Not only do they want take the porn (or anything they perceive as porn). they’re still insisting that marriage is between a male and female. In a state back east they’re looking to start the “morality police” back up and make being homosexual illegal. People think before you vote BUT GET UP OFF YOUR ASSES AND VOTE IN NOVEMBER.
Brian
I agree with the GOP platform. Not only is porn addictive, it’s also homophobic. It is very homophobic towards male- male sexuality. Porn promotes the bisexual double standard.
Paco
I would like to see the proof that porn is destroying the lives of millions.
TrueWords
The GOP are masters of distraction and divisiveness; they regularly pick a topic that can polarize people and watch the antics unfold as people try to address the point and avoid more pressing issues.
Dear GOP,
Where are the jobs?
Where are the wage increases?
Where are the examples of less governmental interference?
What happened to fixing the infrastructure?
The list goes on and on…do not fall for it…make them stay on point!!!
Brian
Many porn performers have died as a result of the drugs they purchased on porn sets.

Red states buy more porn go figure
gayhope1990
Bunch of hypocritical politicians…They denounce the pornography but I bet they keep tons of pictures or videos on their mobiles or their computers.Bigger are conservative bigger they’re liars.
ChuckF
First they went after us as pedophiles who shouldn’t be allowed to teach innocent children, then they went after us as unfit for military service. That didn’t work so they switched to marriage and after a good run with that, the Supreme Court put a stop to their shenanigans. Now they think they’re going to get the public hating us because of porn?
What are they thinking? The reddest states are the most frequent visitors to porn sites.
DCguy
And again, the last two posts are missing the usual Log Cabin trolls. Guess they still can’t figure out how to try to defend this. When they finally come in they will bring up some Democrat from 20 years ago who didn’t like lgbts and then yell that is why people should vote for the GOP.
That said, I think the porn thing might be a giveaway to the Mormons since the GOP has gotten very bad news in the Utah polls. So the Utah GOP most likely reached out to the LDS church to ask what they wanted.
The Mormons have been railing against porn for the last few years and the wording in the GOP platform is a match to the church’s porn proclamation.
And of course the Mormon leaders also never object to a little anti-lgbt hate thrown in by Tony Perkins.
Sluggo2007
I can just imagine the public health crisis that would arise if the GOP were successful in removing porn from the Internet. There would be TONS more public and illicit sex out there.
n900mixalot
@Brian: have another drink, sir.
jag4313
All this time focused on marriage equality should be spent on education, helping the homeless, gun control, etc.
RIGay
With the GOP convention coming up, they just want to get ahead of all the anti-GLBT delegates being found trying to hook up on GRINDR while in Cleveland.
The profile is for RESEARCH purposes only – honest. Really.
Josh447
Oh dear, if porn goes away, what are all those republican dads going to do with themselves after their wives go to sleep?
Ah yes, best we do think of the children.
n900mixalot,
“Brian” is a plant, best ignore him.

@Brian: “Many porn performers have died as a result of the drugs they purchased on porn sets.”
Many movie stars have died as a result of the drugs they purchased on Hollywood film sets. So, do you want to ban all movies too?!

I’ve been going after religion, which I call a public fraud.

Invader7
Notice how the obsessed the anti-gay MEN are with gay sex? We know what that means: they want to get plowed deep and for a very long time. Then they’ll rail about it on Sunday. They need to admit they like penis !!!
GG
Tony Perkins’ amendment states, “We support the right of parents to determine the proper treatment or therapy, for their minor children.”
So, according to Perkins, a minor child has no rights; unless, of course, it is still in the womb . . .
Rob91316
Porn is a public health crisis??? But I watch porn all the time and I’m as healthy as a horse!
Chris
if you want to go after a public health criss, go after guns.
Hank
Republicans are so hypocrites that this will only apply to the gay porn, while straight porn will not be affected.
corey
Seeing as most “gay” porn is watched in the closet in red states, i can only the most self-hating gays in congress will be pushing for laws against themselves….lol
