GOProud Isn’t Even Paying Sophie B. Hawkins For The Honor Of Turning Fans Against Her

She is not supporting their beliefs but trying to build a bridge so we can all talk and be humans over party. They invited her to play for free. She said she would, if they recognized she is an artist and is going as an artist not taking sides, but being open for them to emjoy [sic] her music as humans. This is very risky for Sophie, she knows it, but she is trying to say lets all reach out our hands and try to find understanding. She is so tired of the hate and I think thought love and music and art could build a bridge. I hope you remain a fan. She is really trying to do something good in the world and I am sure she will address this soon.

I’m not exactly sure why I’m supposed to turn against her. I still listen to her first CD every now and then, and I could give a shit whether she’s a Republican or a Democrat. I expect politicians to pick sides, not entertainers. And as Whatever already stated, it’s not like she’s a superstar. At this point – no offense, Sophie, but let’s be real – she’s probably glad to be asked to perform at the opening of a supermarket.

If you’re going to deride Ms. Hawkins for her attempt to create civility, then you should also hold equal contempt for the likes of Sting, Bono, Bruce Springsteen, Cher, and any other artist who performs for a benefit. It’s truly perplexing — not to mention sad — how these days the term “gay” seems to imply legions of angry lefties with chips on their shoulders. Just remember, the word “feminist” used to mean a woman seeking equality in society; now a feminist is an angry man-hater whose only goal is to belittle men.

If you’re reading these comments, I would suggest to you that Orpheus himself couldn’t his legendary musical talents to reason bigots out of their bigotry.

And notwithstanding how catchy “Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover” was — madam, you are no Orpheus.

In September 1939, after Germany had invaded Poland, the senior US Senator from Utah, William Borah reportedly said, “Lord, if I could only have talked to Hitler — all this might have been averted.”

I’m afraid you are attempting, in your small way, to rival Senator Borah’s level of hubris.

Moreover, your willingness to make a separate peace with those who already have and intend to continue to do our community grievous harm may well cost you most of whatever fans you have today.

I implore you to reconsider your association with this group — not because they are conservatives, but because they are extremists.
