I’m not exactly sure why I’m supposed to turn against her. I still listen to her first CD every now and then, and I could give a shit whether she’s a Republican or a Democrat. If you’re going to deride Ms. Hawkins for her attempt to create civility, then you should also hold equal contempt for the likes of Sting, Bono, Bruce Springsteen, Cher, and any other artist who performs for a benefit. It’s truly perplexing — not to mention sad — how these days the term “gay” seems to imply legions of angry lefties with chips on their shoulders.
