Former mayor of NYC Rudy Giuliani chatted with CNN’s Erin Burnett yesterday about the current slate of Republican presidential candidates.
Giuliani lamented his epic-fail of a presidential run in 2008, saying he was too moderate for a national race. He also called out the Republicans’ extremely conservative stance on social issues, like abortion and gay marriage.
“I think the gay rights issue is a more current example. I think, beyond all the religious and social parts of it, it makes the party look like it isn’t a modern party. It doesn’t understand the modern world.”
GOP apologist Cindy McCain, on the other hand, thinks that Republicans are totally in touch and totally love gays. They only appear homophobic because of the deceptive left-wing media!
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.

The left-wing media made Santorum look homophobic when he compared gay sex to bestiality? I don’t get it.

So it’s the MEdia that makes the GOP look like they don’t like gays? How funny then that the following appeared on her husband’s website..
“Senator McCain strongly supported the effort to successfully pass Arizona Proposition 102, the Marriage Protection Amendment, and his opposition to gay marriage remains the same. Senator McCain believes the sanctity of marriage is only defined as between one man and one woman.”
Statement appearing on the website of US Senator John McCain (R-Arizona).”

The LGBT community aligns itself with progressive ideology mostly as a result of the democratic party’s support of LGBT issues. As the republican party begins to “modernize” and conservatives continue to show increasing support, it will be interesting to see how the community realigns itself along alternate ideologies -fiscal, social — and how this religniment may affect the future unity of the LGBT community.

Show me the list Mrs. McCain. Who are all these Republicans that support marriage equality and a woman’s right to choose?
Cam
@JAC:
Exactly, The idiocy of the GOP has turned a huge segment of the gay community into one issue voters.
If one side is trying to take away your rights, not allow you to make medical or inheritance decisions, not allowing you to marry etc… other things like zoning regs and sales tax issues can tend to take a backseat.
The issue is, if the GOP fights gay rights every step of the way, then I think there will be a lot of leftover anger as there is in the black community over the GOP and the civil rights legislation. If the GOP flips and supports gay rights at the end I Think the community will spread out more.

Its always those darn libruls fault!
FwordNwordwhichisworse?
All together now…why are white people so homophobic? Anyone? Anyone?

Evidently senility is contagious, because Cindy McCain is now showing signs of dementia too.
And what a lazy, slackwitted reporter. She showed the clip of Cindy McCain where she decried politicians for telling LGBT kids they have no future and can’t serve in the military, WITHOUT MENTIONING that Cindy promptly backtracked from that statement, tweeting some bullshit about fully supporting John McCain’s segregationist position.
Cindy McCain is an attention whore — not an ally.
Frankly, between Alan Simpson and Rudy Giuliani’s statements that the Republican party has gone full batshit, I’m loving that gay rights is looking like train the Republicans will just not get off the tracks for. I hope it cuts the party in half, I really do. The party deserves to be destroyed for all the effort it put into destroying us. Fuck ’em.
James
I think if the GOP start not even support gay issues but only be indifferent to them most well off gay people will vote for the GOP.
CJ
In my opinion most Republicans are just 10 years behind the Democrats on this particular issue. That being said, there are still several Democrats that only support civil unions vs. full equality. Even during the 2008 presidential election NOT ONE major Democratic presidential candidate supported marriage equality. In 4 -5 years it’ll surely be different.
Steve
Most of the gay community was already one-issue voters.
Now, their families, friends, and coworkers understand why, and many have joined them.
The two and three-issue voters, also care about their jobs and houses, which are also threatened by the Republican Bankers.
This is not a good year to be a Republican.
kawneekwa
Here come da Republicans!
Blahqula
@FwordNwordwhichisworse?: They are familiar with easy privilege and able in a reflexive way to ascertain that being homophobic is a crowd pleaser. They can sense homophobia is liable to reward even more undeserved privilege? How did I do, Professor Agitprop?
Patsy Stoned
Douchebag Giuliani was fine with gays when he needed a couple of them to crash with after divorce number 2 or 3, but when he needed to get back in with the Republican hate machine he was quick to toss them under the bus.
As for Cindy, how does she claim not to know any homophobic Republicans when she is married to one? Did she somehow miss his anti-gay tantrums during the DADT hearings?

@FwordNwordwhichisworse?:
Why are white people so homophobic? I don’t think homophobia is bound by race if you look at statistics you will find more latinos and African Americans to be homophobic based on their religion and cultural upbringing not “whites”.
Revisionism much?
Giuliani is trying to rewrite history.
When he ran for president in 2008, he claimed that “civil unions go too far” and declared his undying opposition to marriage equality.
Now that he’s a failed politician, he’s trying to rewrite his history into some scion of tolerance. What a load of crap.
