This concept, while foreign to me, is interesting, as it used to justify so much judgement and separation in our society.

Actually there’s a whole lot of things in the Bible that give morons a reason to be upset by other people’s decent and sensible behavior.
The Bible isn’t exactly filled with good advice and role models. Unless you’re into genocide and misogyny.
