Earlier this week, Helen Mirren took a brief step outside of the Gielgud Theatre in London, dressed as Queen Elizabeth II, to scold a group of LGBT musicians making a ruckus on the sidewalk out front.
Today, she wants you to know that she wasn’t attacking their cause—she just hates loud music (and frankly can do whatever the hell she wants while dressed as Queen Elizabeth II).
After issuing an apology to the group, Mirren was caught walking around town in a t-shirt supporting their cause, an LGBT pride festival called “As One In The Park.”
Now that is how a real queen handles controversy!
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.

She has nothing to apologize for, those drummers gay or straight or bi or whatever they are shouldn’t have been there.
I’m gay, but I also revere the theater and Helen Mirren.

They respected her wishes and stopped, now she’s respecting their cause. It’s a win-win

Is it just me or is she smokin’ hot? Look at that figure.

Certain gays think they can do whatever they want when they’re bullying…

@Polaro: 67 years old and soon to be 68!! Wow!!!!

@balehead — Certain people, gay or straight, should know when to STFU. That’s not me bullying, just helping.

I felt rotten, but on the other hand, they were destroying our performance, so something had to be done.
Lady, it was a fucking play, not open hear surgery. Just another diva taking herself far too seriously.

So now it’s okay to disturb the peace as long as you are gay? I’m a little unomfortable with the fact that we have become untouchable and above criticism in some circles.

@Mr. E. Jones: you sure do know how to live up to your “enema bag” name!

This is why I absolutely love her. She is charming, classy, and personable! I can’t wait to see her in action in the sequel to Red!

Does anyone remember Helen Mirren from an episode of the British TV series Thriller? OMG, she was amazing. I think it’s on YouTube, and goes for about 75 minutes. The twist is exceptional.

@Mr. E. Jones: Helen Mirren is anything but a diva. The term “diva” now is a tired, overused term that equals a talentless hack with a bad attitude. Ms. Mirren does NOT fall into that category.

I really don’t understand the controversy behind this. I would personally consider it an honor if Dame Helen Mirren dressed up as the Queen and screamed obscenities at me for 10 to 15 minutes.

Step back, take a deep breath, and think: Why am I so edgy? Did I miss any of my medicines today? Self-righteous indignation almost never looks good- on anyone. Helen Mirren is fine. The gay community is fine. Each and every one of you is fine. We all have quirks and we all have bad days. Let’s try not to take it out on one another.

Very rude doesn’t always win it you know…..
