Here’s How To Immediately Find Out when Your Facebook Friend’s Civil Union Comes Crashing Down

Now that you can list yourself as in a civil union or domestic partnership, you might be wondering: Great, but what happens if, like your “serious relationship,” one of these more formal unions comes to an end? Then you list yourself as “single,” Facebook alerts all your friends that “JD is now single,” and you start getting IMs from all your old flings. Or you would if they all signed up for Breakup Notifier, a service that will alert you when any of your friends change their relationship status. The new web app, which launched Sunday, “alerts you when people you’re interested in break up on Facebook,” says creator Dan Loewenherz. “Typical Saturday night fun.”

This is really no different than before… it just includes more titles. We could always see when somebody went from being in a relationship to single.
