Elena Mizulina’s European vacation isn’t going as well as she’d hoped.
The Russian MP is one of the ringleaders of the anti-gay rhetoric that’s triggered horrific violence and civil rights abuses across Russia lately. She’s in Germany (traveling with an Orthodox priest, no less) to speak at the Leipzig Globano conference, sponsored by the right-wing magazine Compact.
The theme of the conference is the usual protect-the-traditional-family nonsense that anti-gay groups all over the world use to mask their attempts to subjugate anyone they don’t like.
Protestors hassled Mizulina as she entered the conference. She claimed she was injured as a result, and surely would never lie about such a thing. In the video above, Wanja Kilber of the German-Russian LGBT group Quarteera accuses Mizulina of having blood on her hands.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
There’s plenty of blood to go around in Russia, where gays lose their jobs for coming out, or are victims of gas attacks, beatings, and even outright murder. Incredibly, officials like Mizulina continue to claim that the police are protecting LGBT citizens.
The Olympics are now just a few months away. With thugs getting even more determined to perpetrate violence, and the government determined to keep its head in the sand, it’s hard to imagine that the event won’t be a powder keg waiting to go off.
Major sponsors of the powder keg include Acer, Altos, Coca-Cola, Dow, General Electric, McDonald’s, Omega, Panasonic, Proctor and Gamble, Samsung, and Visa.
