Hillary Wins Gay Invite Race

2007-08-07-hillaryabbeyinvite.jpg
The three “big” Democrats – Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and John Edwards – are all hosting fund raisers this evening. The presidential hopefuls must not have heard we’re in Los Angeles for the HRC/Logo forum, because they didn’t extend an invitation our way. That’s alright, though. Like good gays, we’re less interested in their politics and more interested in their aesthetic. So, who won the great gay invitation race?

Duh, Hillary!

Harnessing years of fag hagdom – and a pricey designer, we’re sure – Senator Clinton comes out on top with her light, personalized invitiation. See? She signed it herself! And right she should: the former first lady’s event costs a whopping $250! No wonder she’s raking in so much gay dough.

Barack Obama’s invitation comes in second. One would think all the name-dropping would help boost his rankings (Paris Barclay! Jennifer Biel!), but the whole red/white/blue color combination ain’t the most becoming. Yeah, we know it’s patriotic and shit, but the color combo really sucks. Who designed America’s flag, anyway? We need something more breezy – maybe if we turn the red pink and bring the blue down to a lovely pastel? Also, we think $200 may be aiming a little high –

John Edwards’ invite brings up the rear. Why? Well, the design’s atrocious, first of all. Second of all, that green “for” makes absolutely no sense. We have to say, however, we appreciate Edwards’ realistic asking price: $15. He knows everyday gays spend all their money on meth, porn and the occasional whore. Realism. We like that, Edwards. Maybe, just maybe, we’ll crash your party.

The John Edwards piece looks like it was designed by a 4th-grader. Barack’s isn’t terribly bad, though it’s way too busy.

Yep, hands down: The Hill won this design contest.

Love it that Hillary just goes by one name, that’s all that’s needed. Like Madonna, Cher, Beyonce… Hitler.

Two of the three hosts for Hillary’s party are also listed as hosts of the Obama party. I guess they get around in LA.

David Cooley and Sam Nazarian own both venues, Area, and the Abbey, so they were kind of forced to host both events. Also, it is not uncommon for people to support, financially and otherwise, more than one candidate at this early stage. In fact, it’s smart…I think $50 is reasonable. It’s what a night at a bar costs, usually….if you dink moderately! It’s too bac Kucinich is not hosting an event….He’s my candidate. We shouldn’t forget that he is the only candidate who supports gay marriage….
