History Lesson: JC Leyendecker

leyendecker_arrow.jpg

While we’re on the subject of a. art, b. the past, and c. how there are actually plenty of gay people we like, let’s take a look at illustrator J.C. Leyendecker. Perhaps most well known for his work as a cover artist for Saturday Evening Post, Leyendecker also master-minded the ad campaigns for Arrow Collar Shirts. Seen here, the iconic image was based on his long-time lover.
As if that’s not enough, Leyendecker helped rally support during the first World War by lending his skills to propaganda posters. [Much like our friend Horatio Kitchener] Just a bit of history for the afternoon. From us to you. Why? Because we love you.
