Mormon Peter Danzig came under fire after defending a pro-gay professor. As the Church of Latter-Day Saints mulled what to do with Danzig - whom they asked to support an anti-gay marriage amendment - he and his wife decided to jump ship: "I was troubled that my church requested I violate my own conscience to write in support of an amendment I feel is contrary to the constitution and to the gospel of Christ." Really, Queerty–this is news?
The LDS church makes a big effort to emphasize the concept of "free agency", the rights and responsibility it involves. Yet they have no tolerance for a difference of opinion, much less dissent. Either get in lock step, or be crushed by the growing horde of the faithful. It's a little creepy and Twilight Zone here in Salt Lake City. It's frustrating and comical at the same time.
