Homophobe Gets A Lesson In Gay Love

While we're on the subject of homophobia, a reader sent us this clip from last night's The Real World in which openly gay roommate Davis gets a little visit from his boyfriend, PJ. Openly homophobic roommate Stephen learns a little something about the beauty of gay love. Wow, The Real World really does make a difference. If only it worked on Tim Hardaway.

I met Davis and his boyfriend, PJ, at a fundraiser in Atlanta during the Christmas holidays. I have to say that Davis was nice, but a little stuck up. However … PJ was just a doll. He's very sweet and a lot more attractive in person.

I think all straight black men who haven't a clue about gay people and are afraid for their own masculinity should watch this video. I am getting weary of media appearances of homophobic black men. Lord knows they exist, but I think they could become a stereotype. Stop the insanity.

Honestly, i was most impressed by Stephen's girlfriend Mercy (or is it Merci?) She seemed to have no issues whatsoever with Davis and his boyfriend and the fact that Stephen was already in a relationship with her seemed like a positive step towards his growth on a human level. I think the Real World has been trash since New Orleans but it's somewhat comforting to see something like this come out of it.

That video makes me happy!

I really think the best cure to homophobia is meeting gay people. People who are willing to do that can definitely overcome their fears and anxieties. To me, it doesn't bother me at all that PJ still has problems with the whole gay sex part of it… because, to be honest, the idea of a vagina isn't something that I find all that appealing either (duh)… but when it comes to actual friendships with people and his idea of other people in their relationships, he at least WANTS to become fully open. Wanting that openness is the most important step to getting it - in my personal life, I even give people who still have some homophobic tendencies a lot of clear room to grow as long as they clearly are trying to grow.

If ameachi gave hardaway a lesson in gay love, does that mean hardaway should get an hiv test?
