Kirk Cameron pissed off everybody when he went on CNN’s Piers Morgan Tonight and decried homosexuality as “unnatural,” “detrimental,” and “ultimately destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization.”
Well, not everyone: His hateful rhetoric landed the former Growing Pains star a gig as a spokesman for the National Organization for Marriage’s bogus group, the Marriage Anti-Defamation Alliance.
Sorry, Kirk, we ain’t buying it—and neither is GLAAD. “Kirk Cameron and the anti-gay activists at NOM are making a claim that Americans know to be false,” said GLAAD President Herndon Graddick. “This rhetoric won’t work anymore. Communities across this country love and cherish their LGBT neighbors, friends and family members. This includes people in families headed by LGBT people.”
Let’s see, our side has Brad Pitt, Lady Gaga, Russell Simmons, Carrie Underwood, Kristin Chenowith, George Clooney, Alicia Keys, Susan Sarandon, Madonna and Dolly Parton. Their side has a guy whose best friend’s name was Boner.
Who do you think is winning the star-power wars?
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.

Perfect. A washed up actor jumps onto a sinking ship, a.k.a. NOM. Zzzzzzzzz.

The sad part is that God is going to be incredibly disappointed in them when the time comes.

So this tool is babbling about strong marriage, why is he not fighting against divorce. I mean HIS holy book is against it. People say we gays “just hate god”. No we hate the hypocricy of those who claim to follow “his” commandments.
Cam
Multiple national news organizations refer to NOM as a Mormon front group. Do not forget who is funding all of these attacks against us.
“”Creating the National Organization for Marriage
The Mormon Church appears to have created the National Organization for Marriage (NOM) in the summer of 2007 to qualify California’s Proposition 8 for the November 2008 ballot. They set it up as a Mormon front group, exactly as they did with a very similar organization called Hawaii’s Future Today (HFT) in that state in 1995. HFT was established to pass a constitutional amendment in Hawaii to ban same-sex marriage. Sound familiar? They have now expanded NOM into seven more states, specifically to fight same-sex marriage in those states.””

Re No 6: mormongate.com is not a credible source of information.
1. The information on it is obviously out of date or simply wrong (Robert George, for example, is listed on NOM’s web site as the “Chairman Emeritus”. I.e., he is “retired” and is being listed purely because he makes the outfit sound more respectable. Yet mormongate claims he is NOM’s chairman.
2. There are no citations to original material, but they do have a phone number and email for “tips”, suggesting the editorial policy is “all the news that fits, we print as long as it makes the Mormons look bad”.
Now, we all know the Mormon Church has been up to no good, and has gotten into trouble regarding campaign financing laws ( and , the latter URL citing a California commission). But, that doesn’t mean we should just accept anything anyone says about the Mormons as long as it sounds bad.

Jesus so cherished the “family” that he demand that his followers leave behind their mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers to follow him. Jesus was a narcissist ass with that statement, but I bet Mr. Cameron can not back up any of his statements with the Bible.

“we have to take god at his word” The bible? It tells us slavery is Okay. Beating your children is Okay. Stoning people who have committed adultery ,worked on the sabbath, cursed their parents, worshipped gods other than yahweh etc is required. The god of the bible is an awful diety. It is only by ignoring much of what the bible says of him/it that Jews and Christians can still pretend to worship him/it.If Kirk only had a brain.

Only in America can a career be made out of discriminating against gay people. Mel Gibson should never have spoken out against Jews or blacks, his career suffered for it greatly. Michael Richards too.

Washington » In a meeting with gay-rights activists last week, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid criticized the LDS Church for backing a ballot measure banning same-sex marriage in California, saying the leaders of his faith should have stayed out of the contentious political fight.
Reid, a Democrat from Nevada, is the highest ranking elected official who is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He previously has not commented on the flood of Mormon money and volunteers who helped propel Proposition 8 to victory in November.
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2008/10/now-the-mormon.html
Two members of the church’s second-highest governing body, the Quorum of Twelve Apostles, quoted from Mormon scripture on the sanctity of marriage as they laid out a week-by-week strategy for boosting Mormon involvement before the Nov. 4 election in voter registration efforts, phone banks and distributing campaign materials.
But of course you would rather lay off the single most organized opponent to gay rights in the nation I suppose?

I’m glad Brian Brown finally found someone willing to suck his dick.
Alexi3
@Cam: The Mormon Church is profoundly anti-gay and anyone who believes otherwise is simply willfully blind. This anti-gay stance is the reason that the Southern Baptists and other fundamentalists are willing to back Romney; it is such hypocracy since all fundamentalists believe that the Mormons are an anti-Christian cult. I have been reading lately that some fundies are holding to what they have always believed about the LDS and that they have been taking alot of heat for refusing to endorse Romney. At least these dissenters are being true to their beliefs and not abandoning them for political gain. This is something I can respect.
Bob
When will they get it? We are not against their (straight) marriages so why must they be against ours?

NOM… has connections to the catholic church… and to a smaller degree to the mormons… Brian Brown and Maggie Gallagher are the Over paid leaders and are both catholics… much of their money comes from the Bishops.
What I find interesting is… Kurt is VERY anti-catholic… he has been much longer then he has been actively anti-gay. He tries to convert catholics to his way of thinking.
And Now the folks at NOM are embracing him???
LOL… that is too funny
zekeaz
Does anyone even know (or care) who Kurt Cameron is anymore?
Cam
@JAW: said… “NOM… has connections to the catholic church… and to a smaller degree to the mormons”
___________________
No, actually the majority of the original founders were members of the LDS church or had direct connections to them.
The former head, Matthew Holland, the guy who originally hired Maggie Gallagher is the son of Jeffrey Holland, an Apostle in the Mormon Church. His replacement as head is Orson Scott Card, another Prominent Mormon. I won’t go into all the other board members and their ties, but the group was started by the LDS church, and has smaller though still important ties to the Catholics.

oh come on is anyone even surprised???
of course NOM would love someone like that

Hey Cam, it is not a “defense” of the Mormon Church to point out that the source you used is not credible, giving specific reasons and particularly after pointing you to a legitimate source (A California State Commission) that fined the Mormon Church for a violation of campaign financing laws. Those specific reasons included the presentation of claims that are easily checked and that at present are factually wrong.
At least I got you to use some credible sources. Unfortunately, your first (from 2009) merely quoted something Senator Harry Reid said – his personal opinion, made in a private meeting with gay-rights activists. Reid’s spokesperson BTW stated that he would not discuss a private meeting, and added that Reid thought a marriage should be between a man and a woman (official Mormon position) but that the resources that went into supporting Prop 8 could have been put to better use. Reid represents Nevada in the U.S. Senate and would generally not comment on California’s internal affairs unless those affected his state.
Your second source (from October 2008) was simply from an AP article and described what the Mormon church had announced on Utah TV – hardly a deep secret given that they broadcasted it. It simply stated the Mormon position on marriage and talked about “getting out the vote”, volunteering, etc. Nothing in that article is very interesting.
Meanwhile, you tried to cover your ass by writing, “But of course you would rather lay off the single most organized opponent to gay rights in the nation I suppose?” If that is what you “suppose,” you are an idiot – I clearly provided you with a link to an article about a California commission fining the Mormons for failing to report over $36,000 in “late non-monetary contributions.” It was a link to the commission’s web site (an official source – look at it and search for “church” as they use the official, long-winded name for this church).

Looks like someone might have fallen for Cam’s factually challenged statements. He thought/pretended that a comment criticizing the Mormom Church for what it actually did, which got them fined by a California Commission for violations of California law during the Mormon Church’s support of Proposition Eight, was a “defense” of the Mormon Church.
The issue was not the Mormons per se but Cam’s use of hit-piece web sites as factually accurate sources. Regardless of what you think of the Mormons, nobody has ever won a war, literal or figurative, by gathering bogus intelligence about the “enemy”. It really is important to get the facts right.

How amusing and very wrong.
Have you ever heard of propaganda? That powerful tool that has been used by nations and governments throughout history and rarely concerns itself with the truth?
Governments, politicians, businessmen, religious groups, advertisers etc use it on a daily basis because they understand that the majority of the public likes their facts like they like their food- fast and cheap.
At the end of the day it doesn’t matter how rational debate, facts and profound information you want to spout at people. They don’t want to hear that shit. They want the short, factoid filled version, dramatized and sensationalized and presented to them in an attractive, shiny, easy to understand package.
You may not like that but that’s the world we live in. In western culture, from cradle to grave we’re encouraged to make choices on how we feel. NOT what our intellect dictates. What to buy, what to wear, what to consider importantbevents, ehat lifestyle to keep up with, what morals and values to hold etc…
Once again, you might not feel that way, but thatbis the majority of the country. Like it or not.

Do you honestly think that Stalin believed his propaganda? It’s the people who fall for it that lose, and that is the point. Of course governments put it out with no concern for the truth – and the people putting it out know it is nonsense intended to mislead others and don’t fall for it themselves. Do you want to help the other side out by forming a proverbial circular firing squad?
As I said – it is important to get the facts right. Otherwise you make bad decisions.
Blah, bla..huh?
That guy sees me and secretly wants me to be mommy dearest, complete with face pack and wire hangers. I am over six foot and bearded, and so that strikes me as very self involved of him. The weirdest of weirdly weird people, Kirk Cameron fights tooth and nail for the normal, which means normal to him, ie: people who live lives enshrouded in fantasy and tragic powerful-me complexes. This is basic Talibagelics 101. Stop by for my next installment, whenever Queerty decides to post a crazy Jamaicans article. This is about finding a job to be done and pitching in, right editors?
