No, he doesn’t promote homophobia, quite the opposite. Cohen is using the alter-ego to hold a mirror up to America’s twisted view of sexuality. Borat did the same for xenophobia. The man is a dyed-in-the-wool liberal Cambridge graduate, whose abrasive style isn’t everyone’s cup of oolong, but he’s deceptively subversive.

Actually I think since the new Duden came out the umlaut (and the schloss) are no longer part of the rechtschreibung in Germany, either.
It’s all exiled to the territory of heavy metal bands and snooty artistes now.
