Sarah Palin’s made two political donations in her life. One to Alaska’s Republican Party and another to Senate Candidate Mike Miller. On the first FEC file, she lists her occupation as a “housewife,” while on the second she describes herself as a “homemaker.” Both are from 2004. [Petrelis]

Well, at least she’s gay-friendly.
Jennifer
Gay friendly? How does that jibe with her creationism and her anti-choice stance?
I seriously doubt you’re right about that.
Puddy Katz
How does creationism and prolife have anything to do with gay rights? Creationism is crazy, but all sorts of people are anti-abortion, there’s even a gay prolife group, PLAGAL or something like that. My instincts tell me she’s a moderate in the Arnold fashion. She can be worked with.
seitan-on-a-stick
She’s not Gay-friendly but she is a runaway train for the Republican Party. They scored gold and we political veterans know it!
We Democrats are toast!
rick
the republicans that pretend to be democrats seem to be having a problem today. your candidate john mccain is now toast and proved he is senile.
John
She reminds me of the cynical appointment of Clarence Thomas to the Supreme Court. The modern Republican party specializes in these twisted demographics:
Log Cabin Republican
Libertarian southern Black
Right wing female
God help us

Maybe the world is just too complicated to fit into the boxes you build for it.

You libtards crack me up…LOL..you are in such a tizzy now that the rug has been pulled out from the half-negro closet-muslim Obama on his special day…LOL…

I feel like I am watching an episode of the Daily Show. I can’t believe this is the GOP’s VP pick. I swear, this has gotta be a joke.
If you are gonna pander to women, at least pick someone like Condi Rice.
I can’t even imagine what the VP debate between her and Biden is going to be. I will not miss that one.
ChristopherM
Is it me or does she look a lot like Karen Walker? Except half as fabulous or qualified to be president once her 2,473 year old running mate finally succumbs to the crypt.
Thor
Don’t forget she is a hockey mom too! Oh and she has a vag so all the more reason to vote for her.
Anyone else notice the annoying Canadian accent she has?
marco channing
This nomination is a perfect example of what Republicans always do. In 2004 it was gay marriage. In 2008 it’s Roe. v Wade. The didn’t deliver on the Constitutional Amendment. They won’t deliver on Roe v. Wade. But they will get your vote, steal your money, and ship your job overseas.
What further proof do you need that Bush and McCain are one in the same?
Shirokuma66
It seems from the responses of this nomination the result is clearly divided between, “what a great mistake” and “what a great choice”. No matter her associate maverick status she is still the VP, for now. I guess I could live with her as a VP, we survived Dan Quayle, didn’t we? The issue is would she be a good president. That answer, despite her good looks, charm, and history as someone who shakes things up and reforms, is a resounding, NO! She would be an awful president. If Obama loses this election, America is doomed. It really can get worse.
ousslander
She has as much if not more qualification than Obama. If Dems attack her on that front , they are burning their own candidate.
ChristopherM
Eight years in the state legislature of Illinois and four years in the US Senate vs. less than two years as governor of a state with a population of 572 people and 900 dogs? How is that more qualifications, Ousslander? This choice is the absolute height of tokenism. It shows exactly McCain’s disdain for women that he thinks he could throw any woman on the ticket and bring women into his fold, even if she is a nutjob sop to the extreme rightwing of his party.
marco channing
McCain calls his wife a c*nt and offered her up for a topless beauty contest, is known for telling rape jokes, left his ex-model first wife after she lost her looks in a car accident, compared France to an aging actress who had lost her looks and had no other card to play, and voted against equal pay for equal work.
To McCain, a vagina is a vagina. The younger and prettier the better. He was born three quarters of a century ago and his views of women remain clearly fixed in the 1950s.
Nothing else can explain such a dismal and obvious choice of tokenism. This is a gigantic insult to Hillary Clinton and her supporters.
BikerDyke
What’s the fuss all about? Pure gossip.
Gosh the repubs picked a woman while the Dems dumped on theirs that should be the topic of lament and not this great lady, stop with the hate and recognize that the Dems only have themselves to blame for this.
This Vagina gravitates towards other Vaginas especially if they’re fair, intelligent and as down to earth as Sarah seems.
By the way it’s Sarah not SSarah.

The man who created McCain’s economic plan called Americans “whiners”. McCain’s VP pick said she couldn’t support Hillary because of her “whining.”
McCain/Palin to America: Stop whining. The economy is sound. We will stay in Iraq until we “win”. And women who get pregnant through incest and rape MUST give birth to that child, but the government will not help you support the child they FORCE you to have.
Flashback: Palin Said She Didn’t Like Hillary’s “Whining”
By Greg Sargent – August 29, 2008
Today in Ohio, new McCain veep pick Sarah Palin made a big play for Hillary voters by referencing her now-famous “18 million cracks in the glass ceiling” quote.
But Newsweek reports that back in March, at a Women and Leadership event held by the mag, Palin’s view of Hillary wasn’t quite as charitable:
Once onstage, together with Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano, Palin talked about what women expect from women leaders; how she took charge in Alaska during a political scandal that threatened to unseat the state’s entire Republican power structure, and her feelings about Sen. Hillary Clinton. (She said she felt kind of bad she couldn’t support a woman, but she didn’t like Clinton’s “whining.”)
ChristopherM
Fair and intelligent, Biker? The only thing about her that could be described as intelligent relates to her crazy belief in teaching “intelligent” design in schools as science. When anyone uses the term “creation science,” they are immediately off my list of people I can take seriously.
Tom
Who is Sarah Palin? Here’s some basic background:
She was elected Alaska ‘s governor a little over a year and a half ago. Her previous office was mayor of Wasilla, a small town outside Anchorage. She has no foreign policy experience.
Palin is strongly anti-choice, opposing abortion even in the case of rape or incest.
She supported right-wing extremist Pat Buchanan for president in 2000.
She is opposed to gay marriage, equality of benefits and civil unions.
Palin thinks creationism should be taught in public schools.
She’s doesn’t think humans are the cause of climate change.
She’s solidly in line with John McCain’s “Big Oil first” energy policy. She’s pushed hard for more oil drilling and says renewables won’t be ready for years. She also sued the Bush administration for listing polar bears as an endangered species—she was worried it would interfere with more oil drilling in Alaska.
How closely did John McCain vet this choice? He met Sarah Palin once at a meeting. They spoke a second time, last Sunday, when he called her about being vice-president. Then he offered her the position.
Rock
She’s a bimbo, a tramp, a hussy!
Spread your legs and shut your mouth, honey.
That’s what McCain said last night. HAHA!!!!
kevin57
I think I hear panic among the uber-liberals here. You know you’re toast. This was a brillian pick. Will Biben beat her in the debates? You bet…and all 100 people who watch a VP debate will take note. Is she distinctly unqualified for the presidency? Yep. So what? She’s a symbol just like Hillary…and Obama is, for christsake.
Of course, the Olberjerks will say few Hillary voters will go to McCain because of this pick, but in this close election, 5% of Hillary voters is all it will take.
At least admit it, boys. Obama got completely upstaged on this one.
ChristopherM
So the only folks who aren’t symbols in all of this are the old white guys? Wow, can I have a ride in your time machine, Kevin?
It is well known political fact that a VP pick rarely helps a candidate (last one, Lyndon Johnson), but can often hurt a ticket. When your ticket has someone at the top of the ticket who is living in God’s waiting room, the VP pick matters.
Marco Channing
“I think I hear panic among the uber-liberals here.”
You are mistaking confusion for panic, my friend. After such a despicable, yet successful run this summer with Rove-ian character assignation ads, I was panicing. The convention eased that tremendously, as did Obama’s speech in front of 84,000 people, watched on TV by 38 million. I was baffled by McCain’s pick Friday. it seemed so…stupid. It’s now clear that it is a risk taken out of desperation.
The polls don’t reflect the whole story because they aren’t polling cell phone users. So the polls reflects the middle-aged and seniors. If 49% of them support Obama, imagine the landslide when we add in the youth vote.
McCain blew it when he decided to cozy up to the evangelicals. And Palin sealed the deal on that fumble. No Hillary supporter is going to vote for a woman who is against birth control and the enviornment and thinks women HAVE to have babies created by incest and rape.
dfrw
I see the http://www.gaypatriot.org crowd has come out of its cave and has made its way over here. Yuck.
Palin should not be attacked on lack of experience. That would be a huge mistake. They should attack her on the fact that she does not support choice and older women will remember pre-Roe V Wade and may be less likely to vote for her.
They should attack her for favoring drilling in ANWR, where even in this period of high gas prices, most Americans do not favor.
Those are two just to get going.
Democrats need to stop playing nice, grow a spine, and start attacking. I’ve been saying for years that they have to throw the sand in the sandbox just like the Republicans do.
Finally, the Republicans appeal to their base; the Democrats need to do the same.
Vicente Fox
She was the only Republican they could find who hadn’t been indicted, arrested, or accused of a crime.
JJ
If it weren’t for the feminist movement that she seeks to undo she’d still be a “housewife”…(“homemaker” is a term that implies a job/career).
Many people (e.g. Hilary supporters) wanted a woman candidate because they believed that a female perspective has been sorely lacking. Finding someone who is biologically a woman, but otherwise makes Dick Cheney look compassionate and progressive is a slap in the face to our mothers and their mothers who worked so hard to further women’s rights.
Even if it is in their own (eg. gays) interest to vote Democratic, I think a lot of people will not be able to overcome their racial prejudice and vote for Obama. In the privacy of that voting booth will they be able to vote for a black man? (Maybe if they think he’s half white)
So, they will try to pretend that this Alaska governor is somehow real, admire themselves for voting for a woman, and ignore that she is just the perverted creation of Karl Rove and his ilk.
However, most Americans are not that dumb and I’m betting that our next president will be a Democrat.
Mr C
It a CUTE STUNT by the McCain campaign.
Now lets really get to business!
John
Do you think the Democrats will be able to capitalize on the pregnancy of her unwed 17-year-old daughter, or is this like Dick Cheney’s lesbian daughter, a personal issue?
