Houston, We Have A Comeback.

The internet has been buzzing today about reformed trainwreck Whitney Houston and Akon’s new track, “Like I Never Left.” Unfortunately, her record label keeps taking it off YouTube, but their killjoy tentacles haven’t made it to France, so you can listen to the track here. And, yes, it sounds like Houston’s never left. Welcome back, girl!

Too bad she’s working with such a sexist homophobe. I won’t be buying her tune.

Ugh… it’s easy on the ears, but not at all remarkable. And Akon brings the track down (ignoring his sexist, homophobic ways, he’s pretty annoying as a singer too). I had high hopes for Whitney (and I still do), but this track is a waste of time. :(

like a lot of “OK” songs, it’s success will probably depend a lot on the video. if she’s trying to hit the success of mariah’s “we belong together” it’s going to need a lot more production reworking.

I’m rooting for her because her voice deserves it, but that Akon track blows because it’s beneath Whitney, and she probably knows it. Take your time and do it right and bring out classier tunes. She’s got it in her.

She kind of sounds like a robot. I wonder if she really destroyed her voice with the crack. It’s hard to hear her actual voice through all the electronics, plugins, filters, etc.

Ugh. Terrible. I liked her better when she was on crack.

To say its mediocre is generous. If Whitney plans on recapturing her old glory she’s going to have to do much better than this dud!

Come back? More like, set back. Sounds like a song from Waiting to Exhale. Oh, wait… I’m disappointed because I love her voice and was wishing for something amazing. Alas.

I had difficulty telling who was singing when. Just so-so.
