These taunts happened before he came out of the closet, not as a result of the autobiography. Homophophic (and racist) jeering are all too common in European stadia. Cusak was a target due to rumors and his "bachelor" status but even straight opponents are taunted in the same way. Authorities are trying to stop it and fines are sometimes imposed on host teams but the sub-cultures involved are extreme and unlike anything seen in US stadia. Actually this story has been badly reported. These taunts happened before he came out of the closet, not as a result of the autobiography.
