THE SHOT — Driving Equality’s Chris Mason holds up a sign as his Phelps-A-Thon, a stunt he’s been running since at least March to generate donations for local LGBT organizations any time Fred Phelps’ Westboro Baptist Church shows up to announce God (still) hates fags.
The next Phelps-A-Thon is Tuesday, Sept. 1, at Vermont’s State House, where the anti-gay performance artists will help generate cash for local gay orgs the day Vermont’s same-sex marriage law takes effect.

I’ve always suspected that the Phelps family were left-wing gay rights supporters in disguise. Remember when they were picketing veterans funerals? They are SO GOOD at making homophobia look so unappealing…and un-American.

Especially with the little fag Grandson Fred has!!!

I’m just waiting for some twisted story to come out that Phelps has raped all of his grand children or something like that. There has to be something nightmarish in that family like that.

There’s a bio of Phelps called “Addicted To Hate” that paints a pretty grim, disturbing picture of the family’s lives. It’s unfortunately, not surprising to learn how truly fucked up this guy is.
But one thing thing that people like Phelps and that Anderson wackjob have convinced me of is: there is no way that God has a problem with LBGT people. If He wanted us to change our ways, he’d send better messengers than this. Without exception, every anti-gay activist I’ve ever seen has been an asshole, a nutcase, an idiot, or some combination of those things. There’s no “Inspirational” figure in the anti-gay movement. Just an endless parade of neanderthal jackasses.
It almost makes me understand why they glommed onto Carrie Prejean. At least she was decorative. As long as she didn’t, y’know, speak, you could half believe she was useful.

What Fred Phelps shouts, other Christians whisper.

Hate to say it, but Chris Mason got his van ripped up by state police in Indiana looking for non-existant drugs. All of which happened 20 minutes after he was first pulled over for speeding and was later tailed to a rest-stop. During the first stop he talked with the officer about his gay activism. Mason now thinks that this was possibly the impetus for later having a drug dog get a hit on his van and then tearing up the van and equipment therein, see:

@cufflinks: so true. although it could be argued that his extremism makes the mildly-bigoted feel that they’re not so bad in comparison.

Good post! A lot of people I’ve spoken with have still never heard of this church and it’s activities.
Besides the obvious negativity that this group spreads, the saddest thing is the kids that are involved in this church. They may never get to actually choose their own spiritual path. They’ve been totally brainwashed by this twisted 2 dimensional version of Christianity.
I wrote something up about it as well and posted up a couple videos and a picture of a toddler holding a sign that says “you will eat you babies”
Ridiculous…….
