How Many Gays Can You Squeeze Into Smurfs?

So far, at least three. Paul Reubens (yes, Pee-wee) is joining Neil Patrick Harris and Alan Cumming in the 3D-live action-animated-CGI-invisible Smurfs flick. Reubens will lend his voice to Jokey Smurf, the one who’s always happy and playing tricks on the other blue people.

Wikipedia reminds us “Jokey Smurf almost always uses the same joke trick: yellow- and red-wrapped present boxes that he offers to his victims, saying it is a gift, or a surprise. The present box explodes when the receiver opens it, puffing out a lot of fire that blackens the bearer’s face (or entire body depending on the explosion’s size). Jokey briefly abandoned the exploding-present schtick and embarked on a secret career as the Masked Pie Smurfer, a cloaked figure known for sneaking up on other Smurfs and throwing cakes at them. Whenever the subject of his exploding gift joke reacts with violence or by just being grumpy Jokey usually responds that that person doesn’t have a sense of humor.”

It’s as if the part was written for Pee-wee, ey?
