How the Boy Scouts Can Survive Its Membership Slide

The Boy Scouts of America has seen its roster of impressionable boys drop nearly 60 percent over the past four decades. Focus On The Family keeps having to fire people as its budget continually dwindles as donations dry up. Am I the only one who sees a natural merging of like-minded individuals? Or maybe the Pentagon should take it over, as sort of a junior ROTC recruitment program.

Was in the Boy Scouts for several years as a youngin’. Finally left in the fourth grade because I liked boys, and knew that was against the rules. =)

Yes, the Pentagon should take it over as a Junior ROTC. Then it can go from being a privately ran organization with a homophobic agenda to a publicly ran organization with homophobic agenda.

No doubt smart parents are having their kids join Camp Fire USA instead since Camp Fire USA doesn’t discriminate against anyone and also includes girls as well as boys – rather than all-boys like the discriminatory Boy Scouts.

It’s strange but I never knew being gay was against the rules in scouts until i was maybe 15. It really does depend on the policies of your pack and troop.

What groups are the gays providing young people? Oh yeah, they don’t have meaningful groups for large numbers of boys.

“What groups are the gays providing young people? Oh yeah, they don’t have meaningful groups for large numbers of boys.”

That isn’t neither completely accurate nor relevant. After all, the Nazi party provided meaningful groups for large numbers of boys, so your question is based on a false premise – that providing a resource for young people is of intrinsic value.

Further, everyone knows that if gay men provided “meaningful groups for large numbers of boys” specifically as such – they’d be accused of pedophilia.

The reality is that GLBTQ people are supporting GSA across the country, and gay-supporting congregations provide groups for youth, gay or straight. And GLBTQ people are pretty much the only people who even try to provide safe housing for GLBTQ homeless youth.

Your entire argument is dishonest construct.
