as far as i can work out, here it is: bursting with internalised homophobia and a desperate need to present a bland, family-friendly image of gays to middle america, they get nauseous at an unapologetically gay, self-confident, high-profile figure ruffling people’s feathers. they’re scared that the more attention he gets, the more straights will notice that some gays fulfil the stereotypes of being gossipy, dramatic, camp, bitchy.

so they abuse him as loudly as they can. they call him a fat, ugly, pink-haired freakshow. they scream to the mainstream: “don’t worry, we hate fags like him too!”. when he gets beaten up by a violent thug they loudly join in with the overwhelming chorus that he brought it on himself (brave move!). and now, just for getting on the cover of a magazine, they’re out again calling him a “stain” on the community.

here’s what i think. the community isn’t “stained” by people we wouldn’t take home to meet the AFA. i was never a fan of perez, but after watching these months of jealous, bitter abuse, i think i might be now.

He’s the definition of mess. His falling-apart over this has been amusing to watch. He has great numbers, yes, but the idea of getting behind him because he fancies himself a gay rights activist is laughable. You only need to read the homophobic comments his readers make to realize that, while they flock to his site for its coverage, they’re hardly being swayed by his politics.

He is, in a word, gross. A buffoon. I don’t think it would be a stretch to assume he’s racist. He’s not bright. To call someone a faggot out of anger after the campaign he waged against Isaiah Washington proves he doesn’t get the very principle that mdade Isaiah Washington’s outburst a bad thing.

Your argument in convoluted. How is my logic similar to the gay panic argument? Gay panic argument relates to using an inordinate fear of a gay person as an excuse – and justification – to beat them physically. My logic has nothing to do with this.

Perez may not be everyone’s cup of tea but at least he’s out there in the mainstream challenging homophobia. It frustrates me no end that most gay men are content to visit their saunas and sandwich shops instead of putting up a fierce front as Perez does.

You seem to miss the whole point. Here is what Perez was quoted as saying:

Perez Hilton is no different than anyone else on Fox news. Which is why the LGBT community are up in arms over the incident. The Queens at Stonewall from 1969 would be very disappointed to say the least with the way Perez Hilton handled the situation. Violence begets violence and hate begets hate. Period. The man nearly took 40 years of progress and flushed it down the drain. Yeah, Way to go for an advocate for the LGBT community – NOT !!!!!!

Does anyone on this planet deserved to be hit when someone doesn’t like what someone says about them? That is the whole story, violence was used to scare off a self styled critic of a group that obviously orchestrate this whole event in advance.

Hurting people to get them to change their minds is as old as slavery in America! Justify violence how ever youse guys want. It isn’t about being gay, even when it is organized bashing like in Texas or Canada!
