SOUNDBITES — “I don’t rely on stereotypes and I don’t mock. But, I feel as though as a Black woman who happens to be big, I think there are a lot of stereotypes there too. I think everybody’s just being a bit sensitive. How many times have you heard me on the radio eat chicken and put the African drums behind me? You know what I’m saying? How many times have I been called a man — stereotypical — because I’m a big woman? Please — stop being so sensitive! I’m not for Prop. 8. My son is being raised understanding that Billy has two daddies or that Lisa has two mommies. So please, I know who I am, I know what I do and I know that stereotypes exist as Black, as gay, as tall, as big boobs. How many times do people think just because you have big boobs you’re an airhead? My boobs are big! Sensitivity!” —Incoming television host Wendy Williams on the notion she makes gays a punchline

oh wendy “My son is being raised understanding that Billy has two daddies or that Lisa has two mommies”,you forgot to add “..and he is taught we can make fun of their sexuality”….OH AND THE CLASSIC “i have gay friends!!”

Well, it is true humour is often an excuse to conceal actual prejudice, but on the other hand, when the collective skin becomes so thin (vide the 80-90’s wave of PCness) mutual understanding becomes unfeasible.

Yet another unfunny, homophobic nitwit with 15 minutes of fame, when will the circus end??? Cohen last week, Williams this week, is there any real talent on this planet ugh.

How is she any less offensive than Howard Stern? Or any number of straight male radio ‘shock jocks’ or television reporter hack morons (Fox News, anyone?) Stern has grown to be more GLBT supportive over the years, maybe she will as well.
So she’s a loud mouth, brassy bitch and celeb mongering whore…and she doesn’t take shit from ‘nobody’. Not really a fan of hers, but she’s got as much right to put herself out there as anybody else does.

@Dennis: you said…””How is she any less offensive than Howard Stern? Or any number of straight male radio ‘shock jocks’ or television reporter hack morons (Fox News, anyone?) Stern has grown to be more GLBT supportive over the years, maybe she will as well.”
Exactly, if you want to see just how gay friendly he’s become here is a recent article…
http://www.towleroad.com/2009/04/howard-stern-we-must-make-gay-marriage-acceptable.html
“”My feeling about gay people is that we have a responsibility not only to make gay marriage acceptable and to make gays feel accepted as much as heterosexuals…Gay people are downtrodden They are beaten. They are abused for their sexuality, and it goes across race. In the white community and the black community gay people are the bastards of the world. And in order for things to change, because any one of you could have gay children, or gay relatives, or gay friends…we have a responsibility to make this acceptable,”

Advocate has a new interview with her that goes more deeply into gay topics, particularly her thoughts on outing celebrities. http://www.advocate.com/exclusive_detail_ektid96486.asp

I love Wendy Williams.

@Cam: Wow, that last quote is pretty powerful, but it means even more coming from someone like Howard Stern because its so unexpected. Apparently, that beautiful wife of his opened his eyes to all kinds of new things.
The Gay Numbers
Actually both Stern and Wendy have been as far as I know supportive for years. So it is funny to read these comments along this thread about them.
