‘I made the mistake of not having sex until I was 23!’

SOUNDBITES — “I made the mistake of not having sex until I was 23! I loved being with another man and felt relieved that I finally knew who I was. I made the mistake of falling in love too soon because I was naive and romantic. My advice to you is to never chase love. It will find you when you least expect it. Have fun, have lots of safe sex and enjoy your sexuality. Be proud of who you are. … I made a lot of mistakes. Stay away from drugs, they’re a waste of time. Stand up for every human being’s rights. Be loving, kind and strong. Set an example. You’re going to have one hell of a life!” —Elton John, in a letter he wrote to his 16-year-old self, which appears in former Gay Times editor Joseph Galliano’s new book Dear Me: A Letter to My Sixteen-Year-Old Self

Chopsie,

I’m sure Elton could still fuck that “best ass” if he wanted to. Oh, the hard life of a celebrity…

I should probably be embarrassed to admit this, but I didn’t become sexually active until I was 30 years old.

I’m still trying to find the right guy, lol. I guess I shouldn’t be too protective of my gift to man. 24, just nervous and the whole STD thing really scares me, plus I’m shy.

Blah, when the hell are we gonna get an HIV Vax??!?!?!?!

Mike L, you do what you think is best for ya… if you decide not to sleep around, that’s your right. :) All I can say is – don’t let fear keep you from enjoying life!

Oh, and for me it’s only been in the last 5 years or so that I’ve become sexually active (and I’m in my late 30′s)… *sigh* Ah well.

Mike, those were my reasons for waiting so long too. That, plus I didn’t think anyone would actually be interested in me. It will happen when you’re emotionally ready and not before. You’ve got your whole life to have sex, don’t shorten it by making a mistake when you’re not ready.
