I saw the best movies of my generation, staring at James Franco… hysterically naked (god I hope so) dragging themselves through the hollywood streets at night looking for a good gay flick.

So what? Is straight Hollywood just going down the list of historical queers and casting every straight “it” boy in every punitive production they can get green lit? What next; Channing Tatum as Hans Christian Andersen? This is getting absurd. For decades a friend tried to get a bio on Craig Russell off the ground with no luck and died before it ever happened. I guess all I should do today, is cast Philip Seymour Hoffman, highlight Russell’s marriage to Lori Jenkins with lots of female nudity and sex scenes and then have him die after making a “life affirming” speech and Hollywood will back a dump truck full of Oscars at my front door

James Franco looks nothing like Allen Ginsberg. Further, I doubt that he can act like Allen Ginsberg.

Are there any gay actors who want to play these roles who are any good?

I will watch James Franco play ANYTHING. Cast him as Eleanor Roosevelt for all I care.

@Gregoire: He’d be the hottest Eleanor Roosevelt ever.

James Franco playing Allen Ginsberg is as ridiculous as Nicole Kidmman playing Virginia Wolf.

Oh wait …

I don’t watch movies or tv shows where haterosexaul actors play gay. Haterosexuals particularly haterosexual males have been gay people’s oppressors for thousands of years across the globe. Seeing a haterosexual male play gay is like seeing Hitler play a jew, it’s revolting.

Some of you may be thinking of the older-hippie-looking Ginsberg.

Franco’s not really too far off of the younger Ginsberg.

“I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving hysterical
naked, dragging themselves through the negro streets at dawn looking for an
angry fix, angelheaded hipsters burning for the ancient heavenly connection to
the starry dynamo in the machinery of night…” (from Allen Ginsberg’s Howl).

This has got to be one of my most favorite book openings ever.

And today Queerty must be thinking about me because there are two Beat Generation today.

I like the idea of James Franco playing Allen Ginsberg. He’s definitely got that old Beat vibe and he’s a tremendous actor.

@Tom:

Wow! Franco does look like a younger Ginsberg. I didn’t know Ginsberg was such a hottie back in the day. And James Franco is a terrific actor. He’s right up there with Ryan Gosling.

James Franco is wonderful, so i’m sure this has potential to be great. Allen Ginsberg would be so flattered.

@Bill:
I don’t mind it too much. Gay actors have been playing straights for centuries.

The thing I love about James the most is his smile. It completely mesmerizes me. Usually when I see a guy my eyes immediately start wandering below the neck but when I look at him smiling I could care less about anything else. I easily fall into lust, but never in love. James gives me a glimmer of what that feels like and its nice.

I assure you, Mr. Franco IS Allen Ginsberg. Google ‘Allen Ginsberg 1950′ and tell me there’s no resemblance. Please. :)

@myrios123: Are you saying you have seen James Franco naked or that you have seen several of his movies WHILE naked? If it is the first one, then how on Earth & where did you see these movies & can one get his hands on them?! Which movies? I would give ALMOST anything for the opportunity to see this hot handsome actor in the buff!
