Ian McKellen knows how to turn tragedy into comedy.
While appearing on a Singaporean talk show, the out actor took a second to piss on the nation’s contentious ban on gay sex. McKellen explains:
I didn’t realize, as a gay man, that I’d be a criminal once I arrived – because it’s illegal for a man to make love to another man in Singapore.I was rather naughty because I was on an early morning show… At the end of the interview, they asked what was I looking forward to doing while I was in Singapore. And I looked at the man, who was clearly straight, and said, `Can you recommend any decent gay bars?’, which would be illegal in every possible way.
I looked at the playback of the program afterwards and I’ve never seen the credits come up so quickly!
McKellen, you crazy, kooky queer!
Sir Ian McKellan is our version of Hugh Heffner. No, there are no mansions (well, a grand home in the UK) but no resident hotties of any special meaning. He has been a lifelong libertine who, unlike his fellow and late knight-actor, did not have a lifelong spouse. (senior moment for name)
Sir Ian is the perfect man to discuss libidinous acts at the age of seventy or late sixties.
