The reason the Iowa Family Policy Council doesn't want gays getting married is because two men or two women getting hitched offers zero ability to procreate. Fine. But what about elderly couples who want to get married, and have no chance of reproducing on their own? Oh, yeah, that is okay. But really, why would they bother?

I've said it before I'll say it again; nobody cares about procreation. The whole "o well, gays can't murrieds. Marrieges is about makin babbies." shtick is just a new smokescreen being put up by the same old bigots, trying to hide their bigotry under a different veil.
If procreation was the reason for marriage laws, polygamy would 100% legal and encouraged, and women over the age of 50 would be banned from getting married.
That old chestnut doesn't cut it any more. If those religious nutjobs really believe that marriage is primarily for procreation, then they'd have to get behind a ban on straight couples, young and old, who do not plan on procreating or can't. They can't have it both ways. Gay couples can have children via surrogate mothers, just like many straight couples do where one is infertile. End of argument. They'll have to come up with something better than procreation to ban us from marrying but I doubt if they can concoct yet another absurdity.
The other claim that marriage is about one man/one woman isn't true either if you look at Islam which permits polygamy, but they don't say anything about that let alone condemn Islam for it.
NONE of these heterosexual-only marriage amendments say anything about procreation or children. All these heterosexual-only amendments/ referendums are designed to do is to keep heterosexuals in a priveledged position where they always benefit and gay people are always disadvantaged and to take away our Constitutional rights (these amendments basically make it impossible for gay people to use the judicial, legislative, and executive branches of government to get our rights instead the only option we have is to use the very same referendum process that removed our rights).
traditional marriage: permission to have sex granted by a religious entity.
