Slovakia’s attempt at a first-ever gay pride parade didn’t go so well this weekend. There were some skinheads involved as revelers marched in Bratislava. Eight were arrested, though it sounds like police were pretty overwhelmed with the whole thing. Now foreign governments are all upset, and it makes you wonder: This sort of thing never happens a gay pride parade that Absolut sponsors.
@wannabegay2: Czech Republic is one of the most secular countries in the world. Estonia, which may soon legalise civil partnerships for gay couples, is also one of the most secular countries in the world. Sweden and the Netherlands , which are certainly some of the most gay friendly countries in the world, are both highly secular. A theme seems to be developing not that there aren’t religious people who support equal rights and fairness for lgbt people after all the highly Roman Catholic countries of Spain and Portugal have marriage equality as does the Mexican capital. Former Communist countries, with the notable exception of the Czech Republic, are pathetic on gay rights.
