If Washington OKs Domestic Partnerships, Suicide Rates Will Double!

Protect Marriage Washington isn't "denying rights," dummies! They're protecting families. Because when gay marriage was legalized in Scandanavia in 2004, suicide rates doubled! Illegal drug usage doubled! That's going to HAPPEN HERE ZOMG!!

I love the smell of fearmongery in the morning.

I'd kill myself if I had to settle for a domestic partnership.

I really really really really hate that song they play in the beginning of the ad that song is endemic of all that is warped in US or 'American' patriotism.

The scary thing is one of the kids, or the baby in the video may be gay. Imagine the emotional damage that this video may do to them.

Spewing hatred against gays is mentally damaging and causes suicide. It has always astounded me that we only defend physical damage, but hardly ever the mental damage that is caused by homophobia. A guy in my city committed suicide last night. Think he would have if people hadn't told him all his life that being gay was wrong? It's mental abuse and it's just as bad as physical abuse.

Did anyone else notice that the font in "One Man/One Woman" was substantially larger on the word "man" than "woman?" Intentional or not, they've managed to sneak a little bit of misogyny in with their homophobia.

Furthermore, I'm sick of hearing about these kids' future. Inequality is our PRESENT, and it it's not one I'd want the next generation to inherit.

Washingtonian, checking in. Of course, the current law is a domestic partnership law not "marriage," so from the outset, anyone paying attention will be aware of that.

But, the ad is excellent; I was hoping that the opposition would overplay their hand with dribble, nonsense, and misinformation. Mission accomplished!

It's hard to Know what this is about. What does Marriage or domestic partnership have to do with suicide? That's not a real bright corelation. Maybe it was because they started taking Antidepressants or buying suicide kits. Scandinavians are depressive anyway.

Another Washingtonian here. Literally, Ref 71 is about domestic partnership.

But hey, if their side is making it a referndum on gay marriage, I guess a win on Ref 71 might as well just clear the way for the legislature to approve gay marriage next year, eh?

Also, the dirty little secret in WA is that if Ref 71 fails, we merely revert to DP v2.0, which already provides a lot of helpful benefits. Domestic partnership was first enacted in 2007, with enhanced benefits in 2008 and 2009. Ref 71, if it fails, would merely halt the new benefits associated with the 2009 legislative action.

All of which is beside the point, because the task at hand is to APPROVE REF 71!

Wow that was a low budget peice of shit ad. I mean god. The facts are so ridiculous and unreliable it's just disguisting. Besides the referendum is only for domestic partnerships, not marriage. So that discounts everything they just said. Since it's only partnerships, not marriage

ITS TRUE!!! I was in Iowa and then in New England, all states who have legalized the Gays to marry recently. And I had to be very careful not to step on all the bodies of illegal drug users who comitted suicide!!
