"A leading American LGBT rights advocate was the guest of honor at a private lunch at Downing St today. Sarah Brown, the wife of the Prime Minister, hosted the event for David Mixner, a veteran American civil rights campaigner, author and political strategist. It is thought to be the first time a gay activist has been honored in this way at No 10." [Pink News]

"It is thought to be the first time a gay activist has been honored in this way at No 10."
Er no, Wrong. It is most certainly the first time, to my knowledge, that a whole pack of gay activists has been invited to Number 10
But in the early 90s Ian McKellan, a gay activist, was invited to tea at Number 10 by new Prime Minister John Major, a symbolic event letting the world know that the days of homophobia under Mrs Thatcher were over.
This new event is certainly equally symbolic and very important. And good for Mrs Brown for organising it.
