Well this just sums up the past two weeks, now doesn’t it? (Thanks, Michael Derry!)

Sad but that cartoon says it all.
Buddy
Ok, David/Queery/whomever-sets-editorial-policy we get it. You don’t like Obama. I have no love for the obama-bots, and personally don’t have much time for the man himself (he’s struck me as a pandering phony ever since Ohio in the primaries), but these endless Obama-is-the-anticrist posts are just getting real old.
Can you maybe limit the frothing indignation to say, twice a week or something?
BlackRabbit
@Buddy: Maybe if Obama and his administration didn’t give people so much to write about, this wouldn’t happen.
timncguy
@Buddy: there are several OTHER posts on the page you can spend your time reading.

The cartoon sucks.

Spot on!

The problem is, Obama would give us more attention if we were dogs.
Bitch, please!
Say what? That queeny brown dog is using my moniker. I ought to sue that bitch! Grrl, I should have trademarked it like Paris did with, “That’s hot!”

So true, and, where was all this rage and hate when Bush was in the WH? And, one thing that has been learned by democrats in the future is not speak or mention in a campaign the glbt community for fear of a massive backlash if he or she does not meet the demands and promises the first hour he is in office its a lesson that has humbled Obama more than anything else and eventually he is not going to mention gays again either, which would probably be a good thing as he will never do anything to get any respect from this crowd.
But, since Obama is one term only, I’m sure the next President will do what he hasn’t and will be given a chance by this site and its posters.

Hopefully Michael Derry can get back to updating Troy.

@Bitch, please!: LOLOL that’s the first thing I thought of when I saw that. LAWSUIT! LOLOL

No 10 at DABQ…so by your interpretation the GLBT community should roll over and play dead because Obama is President and we should play nice and fetch because we have a Democrat in the White House and we have a Democratic Congress? as they shit and pee all over us….and of course keep sending money and our votes….and sit down and shut up in the back of the bus and throws off the bus every time to gleefully run us over again and again and again!
and where was all the hate and outrage with Bush in the WH the last 8 years? are you kidding me? were you in a coma the last 8 years?
Obama campaigned loudly and often that he would end DOMA and DADT and that he sign legislation repealing both and sign Hate Crimes and ENDA Legislation…..instead we get Obama’s Justice Department, who speaks for Obama, equating Gay equals incest….and you talk about hate?
Obama promised a Democrat in the White House and a Democratic Congress would mean we would finally get justice…..and our constitutional rights…..Obama has given more constitutional rights to GITMO detainees that Gay and Lesbians citizens of the United States…and the rate he is going we will end up again with nothing….same story different decade as Obama gives us lip service as he kicks our asses to the gutter…just the way Bill Clinton did
edgyguy1426
@Dabq: Everywhere I read, there was hate and rage vs. Bush during his administration. We knew what we were up against; we knew where he stood with us because there were no promises made or broken to us. So we fought and we sued and got marriage in Mass., and civil unions in Vermont during the Bush term.
Sometimes you fight that much harder when you can see the enemy clearly and he declares war to your face. Maybe SM, if you’re reading this why there isn’t such an uprising YET in the gay community, because instead of Obama declaring himself an enemy, he declared himself a Fierce Advocate; maybe we got a little complacent ar maybe we’re just getting over the initial shock of the last few weeks.
edgyguy1426
…and remember what happened to Bill Clinton’s dog, Buddy…

No 10 at DABQ…since when did Obama say he was only serving one term?
maybe you weren’t paying attention to Obama on Election night when he announced his re-election and stated it would take more then one term to get his agenda done…
so in all likelihood we will have 8 years of being run over and our rights stomped on (what little we do have)
at least Bush was honest and didn’t lie and say he supported GLBT rights..we knew where we stood and then did what we had to do at the state levels….even Bush signed into law allowing domestic partners to receive without tax penalties, IRA/401 K funds if their partner died….and even former VP Cheney supports same sex marriage…and said in 2004 that he opposed the Federal Marriage Amendment…that is way more then we can say for Obama….who lies to us with a smile and “I am a fierce GLBT Advocate”…..
Sam
@slider: Obama hasn’t lied. He’s just not pushing gay rights as hard and fast as many would like him to.
Yes, we need to protest and hold the administration’s feet to the fire and make sure he takes action on what he promised. But to say he doesn’t support gay rights because he hasn’t solved all our problems in his first six months – especially when he’s got a stellar voting record on our issues that proves otherwise – just sounds like crazy talk to me.
slider
No. 17 @Sam..I go by conduct..OBAMA has back tracked on everything he said….how about his own words where he said from Day One he would send legislation up to Congress to repeal DADT? has he done so? NO! I call that a lie!
Has Obama sent up to Congress legislation to repeal DOMA as he promised he would immediately do and enact federal marriage equality rights? NO!
Has Obama sent up to Congress legislation to enact ENDA? NO!
Has Obama sent up to Congress legislation to enact Hate Crimes? NO!
Has Obama done one thing on his own volition to back up his so called words…..Obama has done nothing…so yes, you can keep his “stellar” record and put it where the sun doesn’t shine….and bury it with the crumbs he offers…and keep sending your money to the Liar in Chief…..I say hell no, I won’t take that bullshit any more!
SM
The White House has a meeting next week and many of your supporters are now calling you brats because you all cannot wait just a bit unitl we get through hard issues like HEALTHCARE.
Some people in this country voted for Obama for the RIGHT to healthcare and they probably donated and supported him more than many of you.
http://theplumline.whorunsgov.com/justice-department/obama-administration-set-to-hold-powwow-with-big-gay-groups/
edgyguy1426
SM- I read today healthcare might take years. And by the time Healthcare gets hashed out he might come out of it even more bruised than when Hillary had a go at it. Do we really want to wait until his approval rating is below 50%? It’s aready slipped from 60 to 55. How willing to you think Obama will be to do something as unpopular to call for DOMA repeal when his ratings are below 50%?
Michael
Call me a big, whiny brat, but I want health care AND equal rights. Dare to dream people. The “other side” has a shit load of money. You don’t get what you want from the government unless you put up a big, screaming fight or have scads of cash. And wow, it looks like the big stink the gay community put up has had a positive effect! Applause! Applause!
Mike
Obama is showing himself to be a typical back stabbing, hypocritical, lying politician who said things necessary to get elected & had no intentions of following thru on his “promises”. I am gay & supported him in the election, gave money, signed up for his FB page & his website….foolishly thinking he would change things. I guess we all in the GLBT community ignored his visits to that bigot Rev. Saddleback’s church, or how he was in that nutjob preachers church who said “god d@mn the USA” for so many years & only right before the election “left the church”. mmm hmmm. I knew he didn’t support gay marriage before the election, but I didn’t think he would ATTACK us like they did in the USSC Petrangelo & DOMA briefs. NOW we see & know his true colors. Boy were we foolish. NEVER AGAIN will I support B.O. unless his administration & he change their attitudes & actions. “Fool me once, shame on you…fool me twice, shame on me”. I wish we could go back in time and pick Hillary for Pres. I think she wouldn’t have thrown us under the bus like that bast@rd BO did.
galefan2004
@Dabq: You must have been high the last 8 years to think that Bush wasn’t criticized daily by the entire country (except like 25% of it). There was no point in pushing Bush, it was obvious he wasn’t going to help with gay rights. Also, those people that make those promises do it to get our money. As long as gays are viewed as the population with the most disposable income (therefore capable of giving the largest donations per person) the Dems will keep bringing us up every election.
Hannah
SM, don’t act like healthcare doesn’t apply to us. Gay people care about our two wars and economy and energy and all the other shit people think should come first. Hell, gay people care about MORE political issues because we don’t have equality on top of everything else plaguing this country.
I don’t care what people are saying. Our “whining” (as some have called it) GOT OBAMA’S ATTENTION. Holding a politician accountable is what citizens are SUPPOSED to do.
It was just so fortunate that the DOJ brief came out so close to that DNC gay fundraiser.
galefan2004
@slider: Obama can not send up legislation. The congress has to send propose legislation and it has to go through committee before it can be introduced for a vote. All Obama can do is request that the congress do that process then sign it into law when its done.
galefan2004
@Michael: While the other side does have a “shit load” of money, don’t count out the money on both sides of the aisle.
slider
Galefan..you are wrong again…..Obama can and does send up legislation..every President does….they get a Member of Congress to sponsor it but every President has sent up legislation and what it wants done and to make it a priority of the Congress and to push it through..why else does have a President have a Congressional Liasion office to lobby Congress and push through the President’s legislative agenda? give me a break, I cannot believe you would be that naive to believe a President doesn’t send up legislation to Congress….it is done all the time….like Hilary care for health insurance…done by Clinton, his welfare reform bill…Clinton’s DOMA Legislation..the White House creates the legislation it wants, gives it parameters and what it wants in the legislation and finds the Member of Congress to sponsor it…let’s see in exchange for favors and goodies that the Member of Congress needs for their district or state.
Steve
@galefan2004:
It’s not quite as passive as all of that from Obama’s side. That’s why there’s an Obama health care plan and an Obama environmental plan. Obama can set forth an agenda and either someone in Congress picks it up or introduces something similar. Through the give and take of various committees and reconciliation of House and Senate versions, Obama gets more or less than what he wanted and decides to sign it or not.
So the Obama’s gay rights agenda should be fairly straight forward. He has the authority to stop separations under DADT. One senator has actually asked him to do so as an interrim measure. He can then tell Congress that his agenda is to repeal DADT. It will then go into the grinder and something will come out that he may or may not sign depending on the stipulations.
Similarly, it has been generally established that Presidents do not need to enforce laws that are unconstitutional. DOMA is largely regarded as unconstitutional. Obama’s DOJ can stop defending it. At the very least, they can be appear to be somewhat aggrieved that they are forced to defend it. He can say that his agenda is the repeal of DOMA. Someone can pick it up in Congress and off they go (this appears to be what might be happening although if the requirement is for bipartisanship on this, I don’t think it’ll fly). But this is never going to fly…not before mid-term elections, not after, not after re-election.
ENDA is making its way slowly through Congress. Obama can come out strongly in support of it. He can tell people he plans to sign it.
It’s called Leadership and it was what he promised. On gay rights. On health care. On Gitmo. On Iraq. On the economy. And I frankly don’t see it. I see a very plodding intellectualism that got Carter in trouble. I’m all for smart presidents, Thor knows we need them, but they need to lead at the same time. Leaders are people you tell you what is good for you. What is good for Congress…but for some reason in this country when Republicans do it, it’s leadership but when Democrats do it, it’s Socialism. Of course, you need good leadership in Congress as well…Pelosi? Reid? Oh, Jupiter, we’re screwed.
Another problem in American politics as it relates to Congress is that while issues may poll at 60%, 70% support nationwide, with gerrymandering, those aren’t the figures that senators and representatives are looking at. They’re looking at how the 30% of the people who voted them into office feel…and it ain’t pro-gay, pro-government in the red districts
As for health care, it’s going to be a clusterf*ck. The vested interests were all given a place at the table and the system isn’t actually going to get fixed. He’s even going back on campaign promises there (making employer provided health care benefits taxable). Requiring people to buy health coverage and subsidizing insurance payments is a band aid. The system is totally bjorked. This is only an example but way too much money is being spent on the last 6 weeks of people’s lives because nobody wants to step up and be responsible for unplugging Nanny.
Some really needs to step up to the plate, explain how bad the messes really are, what it’s going to take to fix them and lead us through the solutions. I had some hope that might have been Obama. It’s not.
M Shane
The fact is that Obama has a whole host of issues to confront. The biggest problem has to do with undoing some of the horrendous ruin that Bush and years of Right wing manipulations have left. The other is that we arew on the edge of a recession thjat may prove to be the worst in history. We are a country that is overmiliterized by so much that there is no comparison in history . We have an imense Empire to maintain the likes of which never before existed.
Whether Obama likes it or not , the U.S is one of the most Right wing countries in the world and Obama hass to fight all the way for anything he gets, the people here are so brain washed.
He is going after a big issue now, certainly more important than marriage will ever be : healthcare.
We can just count ourselves lucky that Clinton did not win. She would slip it to us like her husband did. I can’t see any reason why not.
In referance to the claim (above @ Steve. DOMA is not, by a long run “largely recognized as being unconstutional” maybe by twits who don’t know the kind of claims that are being made. If that was a clear issue, Obama wouldn’t block it. If it went before the court they would not make the unbelievable stretch of ‘separate but equal” to equal but very equal arrangements. It ‘s a different issue.
Lily
Obama has had way more photo ops and chats to the Press about his hypoallergenic Dog than those gays who may turn off his other supporters.
He is a bigot and despite his “Change has come to America!” rally cry —
we are still the last minority it is politically acceptable to betray and belittle.
Artemis
I’ve never been happier about not voting for Obama as I have been in the past months. As soon as Hilary lost the dem nom I quit supporting the dem candidate for president. If something or someone seems too good to be true, they usually are. I think Hilary would’ve been a fabulous Madame president, but no the gay community was in awe by obama and the shiny promises he threw our way. Where are they now??
Like my mother says better the devil you know that the devil
you don’t.
SM
@Lily:
Lily…
No offense…but GROW UP.
Obama has hired over 100 LGBT people for his administration. There are SEVERAL pieces of legislation in play but Congress is not hearing from the millions of gays and their supporters so WHY WOULD THEY PUSH IT!
I’m sorry Obama cannot put on a cape and jump on a flying unicorn and prance around to save the world. Right now, soldiers are dieing in Iraq, people are losing their homes, people are losing their health care, and yes you do not have the equality laws passed you want yet.
I voted for Obama knowing I would have to be in it for the LONG HAUL ON MANY ISSUES. I LISTENED TO HIM.
I’m sorry the world is such CRAP right now and Obama cannot give 100% of his time to LGBT issues and people.
Maybe you all would be better off if the Democrats just dropped the LGBT agenda since you are NEVER HAPPY. We are not out to get you…but if it makes you so angry. We can let you go.
ID
Since when does signing a piece of legislation take “all of someone’s time.” The “he’ll get to it” argument is old. Believe it or not people can do different things at the same time.
As was already said, it’s not childish or unrealistic to ask for BOTH equal rights and health care. It’s just politically inconvenient – fierce advocacy isn’t throwing someone under the bus until you make time for them.
If you’re so worried about soldiers dying in Iraq, you should be upset that qualified officers are being dismissed because they think men are sexually attractive. Get a spine.
M Shane
I agree with Buddy (above). A ll of the unwarrented negativity by Queerty gets to be tedious and destructive. Are you on methadine too be so incredibly obsessive?
What Obama just did is not clearly anything, and yet you make it so by repeatedly trumpeting the same bitchy scolds.
I assume you think that another Bush would have been better! It starts to look as if you have some kind of fixation which prevents any objectivity. We had enough journalistic devisiveness during Bush’s administration. Maybe we would get somwhere if the gay spokesmen weren’t such neurotic screamers.
galefan2004
@slider: Slider…they get a member of congress to co-sponsor it because they can’t directly introduce legislation to the floor because they are not part of the legislator. They have to work with congress but they have absolutely no power to introduce bills into congress. That has to be done by a member of congress. They have the power to request whatever they want, which I never denied, but that doesn’t mean anyone in congress actually has to listen to them.
SM
@ID:
ID…GROW UP TOO.
Maybe he should sign emergency executive orders to save people from losing their homes. Maybe he should sign emergency legislation to save people losing thier helathcare. Maybe he should hop on Air Force One and fly to Iran and save those people with his bare hands.
Stop acting like you are the only people in this country who are suffering and paying the price for the wrongs in this world.
The people in the military new about DADT BEFORE THEY SIGNED UP. They did not have to accpet it. The military has other stupid laws regarding sex and straight people. It’s its own world. I NEVER SAW THE LBGT having such HUGE DAILY HISSY FIT FOR THE 8 YEARS BUSH WAS IN OFFICE.
There is legislation being pushed through Congress now NO THANKS TO THE MILLIONS OF LAZY ASS LGBT people who NEVER MAKE PHONE CALLS OR WRITE LETTERS regarding Obama’s campaign promises to you.
FUCK YOU
Ricc Rolins
@Mike: He said “God – damned” America, there is such a difference and Dr. Wright is not a “nut job” but he is an inclusive ally for the LGBT community. Don’t believe sound bites or the pundits on FOX and CNN. I know Dr. Wright personally and he has always supported our community long before the inclusive church movement started.
