Yes, really. “India’s Supreme Court agreed Thursday to hear a petition from a Hindu astrologer who is seeking to annul a recent landmark ruling that decriminalized gay sex. In his petition, Sushil Kumar Kaushal said ‘even animals don’t indulge in such activities,’ adding that allowing gay sex would help spread HIV/AIDS. The latest development indicated that despite a recent Delhi High Court ruling, gays in India still face a long battle to gain acceptance — social and legal — in this deeply conservative country where even heterosexual sex is talked about in hushed tones. ‘”If such abnormality is permitted, then tomorrow people might seek permission for having sex with animals,’ Kaushal said.”

They agreed to hear a petition from a man who is an astrologer, you mean. Religious groups petitioning hearings or inquiries is not such an odd thing.
To say they “turned to” him though implies that they were actively soliciting policy input – like the White House Office of Faith Based Initiatives.

My thought exactly Strump – also, when I was scrolling quickly through this and I thought it said INDIANA Supreme Court. I scrolled on, didn’t read it the first time through and then it kind of “scared” me that when I actually thought it was Indiana, it didn’t even surprise me! (that is how goofed up this country can be sometimes, so I thought “par for the course.”)

and of course, animals DO have SS activities – surprising this is not known in India which in some areas is quite technologically and scientifically advanced.

An astrologer? Seriously? Is Nancy Reagan in charge now? This is beyond embarrassing!

the headline is so misleading to the content of the news just to evoke curiosity. any indian citizen has the right to challenge any ruling given by a court irrespective of his profession.
