Indiana Gov. Mike Pence‘s super-controversial “religious freedom” discrimination bill has made headlines across the nation, so it’s no surprise that it was also the top story on Saturday Night Live‘s Weekend Update. Anchor Colin Jost demonstrated in less than 30 seconds how visitors to the Hoosier state will be able to tell which businesses support the antigay bill.

Apparently unwed mothers and adultery is ok unless they are gay. Religious folks and their hypocrisy.

As far this bill is concerned I say this: I was brought up to NEVER kiss anyone’s ass to take my money. There are simply too many businesses out there who will do what another won’t. Let them loose enough business and see how far that Jesus shit will fly with their creditors.

Around 2007 there was controversy in Minneapolis where Somali taxi drivers refused service to passengers carrying alcohol (or with service dogs). They claimed it violated their Muslim faith. The overwhelming consensus and response was – with respect to their faith – the taxi industry is a service and those who refuse to perform the service would be fined or lose their license -they shouldn’t be in the industry. How is that any different in Indiana and Arkansas? If one has religious beliefs in conflict with the primary function of their job – they should find another line of work. These laws are a slippery slope to discrimination: taxi driver doesn’t want to transport gay couple, gay people being denied food in restaurants, or dry cleaning, or mortgage. Substitute gay for Catholic, Muslim or Jewish and it’s clear why these laws should not exist.
