Ireland's Absolutely Beautiful Gay Marriage PSA

Maine may have its gay marriage television spots, but it's Ireland's that are really catching on. "Sinead's Hand," from the group MarriagEquality and featuring native actor Hugh O’Connor, has been seen more than 130,000 times since debuting at the Dublin Gay and Lesbian Film Festival (GAZE). And it comes at a perfect time: The Irish parliament will decide if, after decriminalizing homosexuality in 1993, this year is the time for civil partnerships for gays and lesbians in a land where marriage is reserved for heteros.

Now this is a kick-ass PSA, though it does run a little long. We should be doing ads like this here in the States.

We did run this ad in the United States. It is a scene for scene copy of an ad that ran on MTV in the 2004 election cycle.

Yeah, we had this PSA here like four years ago:

I wonder if Ireland asked publicinterest.tv for their permission to basically copy their idea?

@Jordan: yeah, they should make them pay royalties! or… we could have priorities.

@Jordan: Good detective work.
I'd still pronounce the Irish knock-off as an improvement.

They took a good idea and made it better. That was incredibly sweet and effective. We should copy their better version for 2010 or whenever we're getting our collective rainbow butts in gear for equality.

Love it. But then, I'm Irish.

(As in Dublin, not Boston…)
