The tough manly-man coaches and teammates of an unnamed gay NFL player have long known about the man’s sexual orientation, and are completely down with it.
“A good dozen players on the team were aware the player dated men,” writes Mike Freeman, on his CBS Sports blog. He quotes one of the guy’s fellow players as saying, ”It was the worst kept secret on the team. Many of us knew and we didn’t care at all.”
The open-minded teammate adds, ”We saw him as a player, not as a gay player.”
Freeman doesn’t name this gay NFL-er as he hasn’t yet come out publicly come out but makes the solid point that if his teammates have been so accepting of his orientation, “this would represent a possibly dramatic shift in the entire idea that an openly gay man could exist in the NFL.”
Indeed it does. Just earlier this month, straight linebacker and ally Brendon Ayanbadejo reveals there are at least four players who are considering coming out as gay. “I think it will happen sooner than you think,” Avanbadejo said, adding “ It would be a monumental day if a handful or a few guys come out.”
And then there’s this guy.
We imagine Tim Tebow is down on his knees…praying.
