Not only has Connecticut Democrat Chris Dodd pushed for the Uniting American Families Act, he’s also been voting for ENDA since time immemorial. North Dakota’s Byron Dorgan, meanwhile, voted for ENDA and against the amending the constitution to ban same-sex marriage. Then again, the both of them voted for the Defense of Marriage Act — as did a whole helluva lot of Senate Dems, including the sitting vice president.
We will probably lose the North Dakota seat, but Chris Dodd leaving in Connecticut will insure that that seat will remain in Democratic hands. Dodd’s scandals would jeopardize any future election bid he would have made.
Dodd is no great loss to the LGBT community, both nationally and in my home state of Connecticut. His last 20 plus years have been characterized as a total lack of leadership – and a total absence of courage. Unfortunately, his probable replacement Richard Blumenthal is no better.
Are. For Chrissake: ARE the DEPARTURES a blow.
What’s the BFD? Maybe the GOP will capture the ND seat, maybe not. As for Dodd, his departure is the Dem’s best chance to hold the seat.
But what fucking difference does it make? With the limp-dicked non-leadership from the Dems in both the Senate and House, the wingnuts have been allowed to control the national agenda.
The supposed Senate majority magic number of 60 filibuster-proof seats has failed to yield the promised repeal of DOMA and DADT along with real health care reform, so fuck them ALL to hell, the gutless shits;
It doesn’t matter.
Democrats need to pay for their duplicity.
