Is John Travolta Scared to Leave Scientology Because They’ll Out Him?

travoltakissjet

John Travolta reportedly wants to leave the Church of Scientology, because it is a cult and wildly controlling was unable to help his son Jett … and stuff. But abandoning the church with his checkbook and star power could be an unwise decision, since David Miscavige & Co. likely have plenty of video and photo evidence of the actor engaged in the sort of same-sex relations that initially draw closeted celebs to Scientology. And we’re not counting his smooch with Jett’s “nanny” Jeff Kathrein, which, now that we think about it, could easily have been a Scientology-leaked photo to scare Travolta from ditching in 2006. And if this story has any semblance of truth, it’d be all the more disturbing since Travolta is on the record about how the church is soooo not homophobic.

      Poor John! Really, I have sympathy for people in cults like Ex-Gays!

      I never thought of Travolta as gay in the exclusivity sense. Bisexual, maybe. Keep in mind that nearly all Italian men are bisexual. In Italy, there is no gay scene as we know it, many men assuming the fluidity of the sexual orientation within themselves.

      @jason: Yes, and in iran there are no gay people! It’s amazing how much sexuality in a single country can vary so vastly when one disregards objectivity.

      3,

      I didn’t say there were no gay people. I simply said that, in most men in Italy, sexual fluidity is assumed rather than ignored. Men there don’t feel the need to polarize themselves into the straight/gay paradigm that has paralyzed male sexuality in America.

      The straight/gay polarization paradigm is actually bad for male sexuality because it forces most men into the “straight” category, thus denying any same-sex component whatsoever.

      @jason:

      wow, keep breaking the insightful news about italian men… in italy. mom must be proud! wait?

      regarding the photos: interesting background/lighting outline.

      the church’s (be your best person) philosophy could easily condemn homosexuality as being a potential hindrance to success(the ability to pay church fees, lol)… all depends on the individual, as with most fluidly bigoted religious groups. I’ve heard stories from friends in clearwater, fla. about exposed conversions of their peers, including political/public figures(grain of salt, though…)

      IIRC, these photos broke and not a peep was said that it was altered. Some crap about that being his help or something and kissing a foreigner.

      As far as I’m concerned, all religions are cults, most of them bad.

      Jason, I wouldn’t agree with that assumption about Italian men. There is a very deeply rooted bias against homosexuality, odd for a country that never criminalized it as most western countries did. Italy is one of the most backward of western societies in terms of equality. Even though it disestablished catholicism as the state religion during the 80’s, the church wields immense power on social issues and this trickles down to government that produces homophobes such as conservative bigot Berlusconi who believes that gay Italians should be discriminated against.

      Their “outing” of him or any other star could backfire, BIGTIME.
      Most people with the good sense to know when to reach for toilet paper “afterwards” know the Church of Scientology is nothing but a business like all the rest of them.

      At least that is what I hope will happen.

      Gee, I’ll have to tell my Italian friends and their boyfriends that there must be a lot of women hiding in the gay bars they go to there, since I’ve just found out that everybody is bi-sexual there.

      @jason: I think that if you keep thinking and reading , strarting off where you are you will wonder how we got where we are now . Without judgement, you’re at a good place to start asking about modern sexuality, and how social controls influence the ways we come to categorize people. A lot of thinkers like Foucault and others talk about that.

      @ Helga von ornstein: And Businesses will stoop to nothing for profit in general anymore. Scientology has worked conspicuously at getting a reputation for “ripping people off” I think that like a lot of modern churches which promise self fullfillment in a the eathly plane with respect to money etc. this group seems to push the matter to extremes, soaking people for presumably outrageous amounts with “success seminars” etc.

      Sorry, folks. I lived in Italy for two years. A common sight in the streets of Rome is that of a man pushing a baby stroller, checking out other men as his oblivious wife looks elsewhere. He’s not doing that because he’s bi. He’s doing that because he’s in the closet.

      Italy is, in the urban centres, quite progressive, considering the shadow the Vatican casts over it. Make no mistake, though, that shadow is still there.

      @jason: Being an Italian-American, Travolta would not be culturally in tune with actual Italians.
      Whether Greek, Italian or Arab, the ancient Mediterranean undestanding of sexuality was you were straight so long as you’re on top and don’t kiss. They never thought of themselves as bisexuals.

      because scientology claims/claimed to cure homos — just like everything else — with a cheapo version of a biofeedback apparatus.

      @everyone else.

      don’t bother worrying about jason. he’s only capable of thinking in unfounded generalizations. check out his rants about black people for further examples.

      I know in the early 80’s Scientology played this “Bait&Switch” bit with Gays, at least in the Mt States. My Partner at the time was a Scientologist and they were OOOOHHH so Supportive. Then came more “Auditing”. Needless to say, I got tired of the crap from them and gave him an ultimatum, which he chose the Travolta route.
      To me, if you have to check your brain at the door, I’m not Interested…
