Is This What True Love In 1980 Looked Like For You?

Ash, the indie rock band formed on or about 1992, released this video for their new-ish single “True Love 1980.” We liked it for the film treatment that provides some washed out RGBs. You’ll like it for the gay letter jacket love story, which you’ll have to stay tuned till the end to witness.

This was the first single off the A-Z series. They have flirted with gay imagery since the 1977 album all those years ago.

I think it’s quite possibly one of their best videos ever. The gay bit is just a bonus.

Also check out the video for third “single” “Arcadia”.

There are better Ash songs in my opinion but it’s really interesting to hear them experiment with this (for them) untypical 80s synthesizer sound.
And the guys in the video are really cute. :-)

The only thing remotely 1980 is the color treatment. . .but then, only if the super8 was left in the garage for 20 years.

Complete and total fail on 1980, but . . .good song/track.

Hey .. you asked “Is This What True Love In 1980 Looked Like For You?” . .well . .in a word, No.

In 1980 I was eight, and I thought the face of True Love was John Schnieder of the Dukes of Hazard. Unfortunately this video completely fails to capture the special passion that united us.

Ash also had some kissing dudes in their video for the song “Envy”:

I forgot about Envy Andy. But most good Ash fans do.

Here’s another good video and the song that got me into them back in 1996.

Beatiful. I went thru something like this in college, and it still breaks my heart.
