Meet White Collar's Matt Bomer's Ex-Boyfriend Mike White

bomer2

So just who is that fella kissing White Collar's Matt Bomer in the photos that have been circulating? One tipster says his name is Mike White, and that he's Bomer's ex-boyfriend before he hunkered down with PMK/HBH chief Simon Halls. (We asked White, who is New York-based, to confirm but we haven't heard back.) But here's one thing we know about White for certain: Bomer chooses 'em good.

UPDATE: White confirms they were together: "Matt and I dated from the November 2001 – February 2004. This was a long time ago. I haven't spoken to him in about 2 years or maybe more. … I wish Matt happiness and success in his life and career."

How does he stack up against Bomer?

This site has really changed since it changed hands. It used to be interesting and informative, now it's tacky, gossipy and judgmental. It has a more obvious agenda and it's not pretty. It's almost like if FOX News were gay, it would be like this site. I'm just about to stick with Towleroad, GoodAsYou and others and forget this site altogether.

I used to LOVE this site, smart with interesting articles, a bit of eye-candy in the am and a dash of pop culture news. Now we have to put up with second rate gossip to a star from some second rate network.
This is exactly why more actors DO NOT come out of the closet. Look at the sh*tstorm Gawker has kicked up bc Anderson Cooper is getting laid. With so many issues at hand (hate crimes, DADT, Gay Activist that shed postive light on the community) why do you force feed us a some picsof some guy he dated in 2004. If you are that amazed by a hot guy in an all white room, you should head to Miami on your next vacation and check into the Delano. Guys like this in Miami are a dime a dozen. I agree with the last comment back to Towleroad.

Queerty has ALWAYS been gossipy and judgmental. Nothing has changed about that. It's also always been pretty fair in the sense that everyone gets trashed regardless of their sexual orientation or political affiliation. That's part of its appeal. And for Pete's sake, if you really like towleroad so much, quit bitching over here and go over there.

Queerty has done this before numerous times, why is it wrong now?

That being said, maybe David F has a point–gay actors don't come out of the closet because they will be reported on just like Aniston, Simpson, Heigl and their straight counterparts.

Gay actors don't come out of the closet because they are cowards. It is childish to blame web sites for actors' lack of a spine. Even wealthy actors stay closeted; it's not like they'd be kicked out on the street for coming out. The real question is why don't people grow a backbone; plenty of regular people come out all the time under vastly difficult circumstances. It is insulting to these non-actors to give actors a free pass.

Daniel makes a very good point: gay men and women around the world in certain societies take greater risks when they come out than do celebrities–some of them do it voluntarily, some of them are forced out–and some of them lose their lives as a result. When a celebrity, faced with the evidence that their "secret" is public knowledge, refuses to acknowledge it, they do a disservice those brave individuals in small-town America or in far-off Iran who truly take the risk. Being gay isn't shameful; denying it is.

The reason I feel Matt hasn't come out to the general public, because clearly he's out in his private life, is because he feels it shouldn't matter. And it shouldn't. Queerty is just reporting on what everyone wants to know.

Well, I think its fair to say if Queerty didnt report it, someone else would.

The first actors who came out, yeah, they might have faced blacklisting – or had legitimate reason to worry about it. But so many have come out, and none of them have been blacklisted [that I can recall] so whats the worry. So what, you'll lose your endorsement from the American Family Association. So what?

No. 20 · Marcus

I agree with you, Keith.

Also, I don't think a lot of readers here, as well as the gay celebrities themselves thought they would be reported on like this ever. Don't forget, there is an assumption amongst the public, the media and the industry that the gay stuff just won't get printed. Well, the really gay stuff. The gay sex stuff especially. People were SHOCKED that Perez went ahead and published the DLB sex photos, yet there wasn't the same shock after Colin Farrell, Pamela Anderson, and even more recently Eric Dane and his, uh, wife's exploits were shown.

If you notice–no one is commenting about how the reporting of Jennifer Aniston is wrong or Taylor Swift, but since were talking about MATT BOMER, who IS gay, it's now off-limits. Matt is 'entitled' to a private life, where he can choose what gets out about him and what doesn't. Because all celebrities enjoy such freedoms 24/7/365…are these people insane?

If you used to think of Queerty as a hard-hitting news site, then I could see why this would be annoying—I wouldn't want the New York Times to start offering dreamy pinups, either.

But if the argument is that it's just wrong or tacky to delve into stars' love lives, then anyone offended by this should be equally offended by the tabloids, PEOPLE, all celebrity TV shows, the entire E! network, every major news organization, the Internet and most human beings on the planet.

Get over it, it's no more or less gossipy than all the other gossip out there. And in that regard, that is only good for gay people—no special treatment.

Well, someone up above commented (sorry, I'm too lazy to go find it) mentioned that the conditions under which celebrities are far better than most of the folks we know. This is a point worth considering. Keep in mind, they have bodyguards to fend off any would be bashers. Most of us weren't so fortunate when we came out. I know for me, it was a terrifying experince on many levels, a process which I only fully completed earlier this year (family). I don't believe anyone should be outed against their will, but when you become a celebrity you sort of lost that.

Lets not forget we are not talking about two ordinary Americans. We are talking about TV stars here. Its just like running for office, you know going in that by doing so you give up your right to a private life. SCOTUS has actually ruled several times that celebrities essentially have no right to privacy under most circumstances.

I also agree with whoever said if you hate Queerty and prefer Towleroad (or whatever other sites) so much, then go over there and bash Queerty there. Its simply childish to sit on a site you cant stand and bitch about how much you cant stand it. If you don't like whats on TV/Radio, turn the damn thing off or change the channel. Don't sit and bitch about how much whats on radio/tv sucks, is raunchy, ad nasueum. Doing so makes you no better than the religious nuts, because thats exactly what they do. Case in point: the censorists bitching about Howard Stern.

I would like to OBJECT.

There was once a time when Queerty was more gay news with some smart opinion. There was a time when well written (sort of) articles that made the community think outside the box. There was NEWS. there was a communal awareness.

Now, can anyone name what happened to Queerty and why it suddenly became less intellectual/informative and became more JOSSIP? Anyone?

Queerty has become a sad gossipy perpetuation of the stereotype and is fighting uphill against bitchier queens with better graphics and stronger wit. There are sooo many other gay-oriented news sources I go to before coming to this site. And with everyone's bitching in the comments, I keep thinking "WHY DO YOU COME HERE?" go to joe my god, towleroad, pam's house blend, after elton, omg blog, etc. etc. and even more gay etc. There is a lot of content out there with stronger footing than this sinking ship.

I come here because I get such a laugh at how much a parody of itself Queerty has become. it's a turn-key offense. it's lost direction and point. It has so much potential too, and i think that's why i find this whole thing sad.

and where is Jossip these days?

oh… right….

I do agree with the guys that say that Queerty has become more of a gossip and soft core porn site then it used to be. Does it piss me off that what used to be a site that was much more easily browsed and had much more interesting columns has basically become a site dedicated to upholding the 5% body fat, hairless upper middle class white guy ideal that plagues the gay community? You're damn skippy it does.

I would like to point out that there are a few articles buried in here that have some merit. There are also some of the guys that I do find attractive in more then a "oh look, it's another hot clone who spends too much time at his waxer and looks just like every other hot clone" way. I also hope that one day, Queerty listens to it's readers, many whom seem to be getting more and more pissed at the format.

Finally, to all you nay-sayers, I'd like to throw your own stupid questions back in your face. If other people bitching gets you so upset, then why do you read and respond? Why don't you just ignore them/us and go read something else? Sheesh!!!

(yeah, I thought not. So, next time you think about writing shit like that, shut it, or else the internet fairy will curse you with bad connections)

This is my final word on this subject.

No one is obligated to come out to the public. Mr. Bomer came out to those who he needed to. He owes nothing to the gay community. Are we becoming our own worst enemy by this infighting in our own community? Don't gays have a hard enough time with hatred and bigotry from the religious reich than causing problems for eachother.

I personally was outed by a pastor–I came from a religious family–and my father proceeded to beat it out of me, he berated me daily. I had been exorcised and even went through one of those gay rehab things. Of course I'm still gay. Thats the short of the story…before that though I did come out to close friends but didn't come out to my parents until that pastor outed me. I was 13 when I told friends, 16 when the pastor outed me.

I'm not alone. Though at that time I did feel that I was. There are others who have nice out stories to nightmare out stories. Its not self loathing but self presevation. Obviously Mr. Bomer is comfortable in his skin and his life. We only need to see his art (acting) or choose to. I'm comfortable in my life now. If we all would just be involved in our own lives we wouldn't have to worry about someone else. On another thread similar to this someone said actors don't have the same legal right to privacy. Who says. Of course they do. The law doesn't differentiate between them and those who choose not to become actors.

Is this a joke? I can't walk by a magazine rack without tabloids speculating on whehter or not Fergie's husband is cheating, or whether Jennifer Anniston is sleeping with a parking Valet, or whether Zak Effron is dating one of his female castmates…do you know the ONLY people I NEVER read anything about? Closeted actors. Sorry, but you can't attack the press only when it writes stories on "The Gays". The fact that the press protects and treats these people as if being gay is a shamefull secret shows taht there is something majorly wrong with hollywood and the press, not with them. It is unfair for Nichole Ritchie or Mary-Kate Olsen to be labeled annorexic, drug addicts, and to snap picutres of them with every guy they walk out of doors with and not to have the same thing happen to other celebs just because they are gay. Sorry, but most of us came out in circumstances MUCH worse, we don't get paid millions for a few months work, we are in environments that are anti-gay, some have familes that cut them off completely and yet we all come out. This guy chose to be a Hollywood actor, if he didn't want fame he could have gone to theater.

He really isn't famous. If he were, then we'd see a hell of a lot more of him like other famous people. The silly tabs leave him alone, the paparazzi never take pics of him doing normal things like shopping, hanging out at a coffee shop, playing with his kids, like they do with Cruise, Hanks, Pitt, Jolet etc. He's more notable than famous.

I couldnt remember where I saw him before until someone mentioned Tru Calling, and he was good on that show, once he was killed off, the show lost its interest, it was like they cut off an arm and the show bled to death, even Jason Priestly couldn't save it. However he shined in Texas Chain Saw Massacre–The Beginning, never saw Flightplan.

Mr. Bomer in my opinion doesn't belong on TV he seems like hes forcing himself and holding back something, In the movie and Tru Calling, he was relaxed natural, he belongs in the Movies.

Ken, the difference here, and it's important, is that Matt Bomer is much older and apparently out to his family, friends and, it seems, his co-workers. When children–such as you as an adolescent–are mistreated by their family and/or peers for being gay, when gay men and women are regularly targeted for attack, when they are sentenced to death in Iran or Uganda, then I DO feel a celebrity has a responsibility and duty to come out and say to the world that being gay is NOT something shameful or bad.

Despite what many want to believe here, celebrities ARE role models, whether they like it or not. I work with young people (I'm a school teacher) and they are very impressionable and look, rightly or wrongly, to certain celebrities for their ideals and their behavior. Thus, when Matt Bomer hids behind a "no comment" regarding who he loves and the way God made him, he is unfortunately sending a negative message that can hurt and contributes to the cycle of discrimination and fear.

He's not hiding behind a "no comment" thats his publicist which is the professional thing to say. They are his employees basically and you shouldn't comment on the one's who contribute to your livelyhood.

He's no role model yet, people hardly know who he is. Jon Gosselin is more a celebrity than Mr. Bomer and he's not even an actor.

You're right, he's much older as I am older now and telling people–those who I feel need to know–is no hassle to me.
TR Knight was outed, well not really, unless he told people behind the scenes of Grays Anatomy being called a fag isn't outing you, but he was devasted, I saw him on Ellen and the poor guy who usually is quite eloquent in speech stuttered and struggled to even get two words out. Grays Anatomy I think is where Mr. Bomer should've gone, I think he would've shined just as the other cast members shine.

Its no big thing, why make it a big thing. He probably puts his kids and family first and everything follows. There are plenty of gay role models. Neil Patrick Harris, gay in real life, playboy in his show. TR Knight, gay in real life, heterosexual on his show. Before they killed him off.

You too are a role model, if you are a teacher, are you out to your school district, your students or is that kept secret because you're afraid for your career?

Enjoy what Mr. Bomer does offer to the world, his art. Let his personal and private life be that.

The gay community is definatly divided.

Its not homosexuality that is shameful to the heterosexuals, they post pics of Lindsey Lohan and her then gf Sam, Britney kissing Madonna etc. The heteros definatly applaud those types of things. The stigma is with gay males. In most cases lesbians are accepted, gay males are not.

I personally do tell people I'm gay if only to get them to stop talking about girls to me. And when I mention how cute someone is or something of course I get looks or "stop talking like that" or my favorite "how can you be like that?" in some cases I get asked "do you think I'm good looking or hot?"

The biggest role models out there sports figures and I'm sure there are plenty of sports figures who are gay and are not out.
