I think if celebrities keep answering questions about sexuality it just makes it okay to keep asking the innapropriate questions and scandalizing homosexuality. Thus it sends the message something might be wrong with homosexuality. If a celeb were to miss opportunities because of it then that at least sends a message it is a liability.

If your shocked that Matt Bomer is gay–your going to drop dead at some other names I can throw at you. To me, Matt was obvious. He’s barely a blip compared to the others that grace our TV and movie screens every day.

I’ve seen pics of Lance Bass and his bf, TR Knight and his bf, and I think Ricky Martin and his bf.

Its not homosexuality that is shameful to the heterosexuals, they post pics of Lindsey Lohan and her then gf Sam, Britney kissing Madonna etc. The heteros definatly applaud those types of things. The stigma is with gay males. In most cases lesbians are accepted, gay males are not.

I personally do tell people I’m gay if only to get them to stop talking about girls to me. And when I mention how cute someone is or something of course I get looks or “stop talking like that” or my favorite “how can you be like that?” in some cases I get asked “do you think I’m good looking or hot?”

The biggest role models out there sports figures and I’m sure there are plenty of sports figures who are gay and are not out.

He’s no role model yet, people hardly know who he is. Jon Gosselin is more a celebrity than Mr. Bomer and he’s not even an actor.

You’re right, he’s much older as I am older now and telling people–those who I feel need to know–is no hassle to me.
TR Knight was outed, well not really, unless he told people behind the scenes of Grays Anatomy being called a fag isn’t outing you, but he was devasted, I saw him on Ellen and the poor guy who usually is quite eloquent in speech stuttered and struggled to even get two words out. Grays Anatomy I think is where Mr. Bomer should’ve gone, I think he would’ve shined just as the other cast members shine.

Its no big thing, why make it a big thing. He probably puts his kids and family first and everything follows. There are plenty of gay role models. Neil Patrick Harris, gay in real life, playboy in his show. TR Knight, gay in real life, heterosexual on his show. Before they killed him off.

You too are a role model, if you are a teacher, are you out to your school district, your students or is that kept secret because you’re afraid for your career?

Enjoy what Mr. Bomer does offer to the world, his art. Let his personal and private life be that.

Despite what many want to believe here, celebrities ARE role models, whether they like it or not. I work with young people (I’m a school teacher) and they are very impressionable and look, rightly or wrongly, to certain celebrities for their ideals and their behavior. Thus, when Matt Bomer hids behind a “no comment” regarding who he loves and the way God made him, he is unfortunately sending a negative message that can hurt and contributes to the cycle of discrimination and fear.

I couldnt remember where I saw him before until someone mentioned Tru Calling, and he was good on that show, once he was killed off, the show lost its interest, it was like they cut off an arm and the show bled to death, even Jason Priestly couldn’t save it. However he shined in Texas Chain Saw Massacre–The Beginning, never saw Flightplan.

Mr. Bomer in my opinion doesn’t belong on TV he seems like hes forcing himself and holding back something, In the movie and Tru Calling, he was relaxed natural, he belongs in the Movies.

No one is obligated to come out to the public. Mr. Bomer came out to those who he needed to. He owes nothing to the gay community. Are we becoming our own worst enemy by this infighting in our own community? Don’t gays have a hard enough time with hatred and bigotry from the religious reich than causing problems for eachother.

I personally was outed by a pastor–I came from a religious family–and my father proceeded to beat it out of me, he berated me daily. I had been exorcised and even went through one of those gay rehab things. Of course I’m still gay. Thats the short of the story…before that though I did come out to close friends but didn’t come out to my parents until that pastor outed me. I was 13 when I told friends, 16 when the pastor outed me.

I’m not alone. Though at that time I did feel that I was. There are others who have nice out stories to nightmare out stories. Its not self loathing but self presevation. Obviously Mr. Bomer is comfortable in his skin and his life. We only need to see his art (acting) or choose to. I’m comfortable in my life now. If we all would just be involved in our own lives we wouldn’t have to worry about someone else. On another thread similar to this someone said actors don’t have the same legal right to privacy. Who says. Of course they do. The law doesn’t differentiate between them and those who choose not to become actors.
