Israel Luna’s Tiny Little Ticked-Off Trannies Concession: Good Enough?

Those who felt stabbed by Israel Luna’s Ticked-Off Trannies With Knives should know that the film makes it’s world premiere tonight at Tribeca. Forget snagging a ticket—its gonna be a small circus. And Luna’s 11th hour concession will only agitate his critics.

Outside the screening Media Advocates Giving National Equality to Trans People (MAGNET) will hold an educational rally and candlelight vigil. Inside, Luna and his trans-actresses will give a Q&A to fans, critics, and potential buyers. Expect fireworks.

Luna’s already removed all mention of real-life trans-bashing victims from his trailer. But he’s also decided to “blur out” letters in the word “TRANNIES” in “many of” his film’s promotional materials. It’s one-part promotion and one-part concession. But it’s a crumby middleground.

The un-edited title still appears in the film. It still appears on the film’s website and just about everywhere else you Google it. So presumably, his bread-crumb give-in is for the eyes of press agents only. So all that’s left to redeem the title is the film itself. We’ll let you know how it goes as soon as we get out.

(Also: Doesn’t Luna know to never read blog comments about yourself? Ever.)
