The president of the Italian Football Federation, Carlo Tavecchio, has a message for the gay people of the world: Stay away!
Newly released recordings of Tavecchio speaking to the online publication Soccer Life in June have surfaced on the Internet. In them, Tavecchio is asked about the then-recent sale of an amateur soccer league’s headquarters to an Italian real estate mogul named Cesare Anticoli.
“It was bought by that lousy Jew Anticoli,” Tavecchio allegedly responds.
Later in the tape, he makes a jab at gay people.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
“I don’t have anything against gays,” the 72-year-old allegedly says, “but it’s better to keep them away from me!”
Mr. Tavecchio, if you’re reading, we’re pretty sure no gay man will have a problem with keeping his distance from you.
Since the story broke, Tavecchio has claimed he’s the victim of an elaborate blackmail scheme and that he has absolutely no recollection of making the remarks, suggesting the tapes must have been “manipulated.”
Hmmm. Or maybe he was “drugged” like Yusef Mack? Oh wait.
But his excuses aren’t stopping local Jewish and gay rights groups from calling for him to be ousted from the Italian Football Federation.
Renzo Ulivieri, the president of the Italian coaches’ association, said whether or not blackmail was involved, Tavecchio’s alleged remarks were still “out of place.”
“Certain words shouldn’t be pronounced by anyone,” Ulivieri said, “and certainly not by the president of the Italian Football Federation.”
What do you think, fellas? Would you have any problem “staying away” from Mr. Tavecchio? Vote in the poll below.

No casting call needed for the role of Dick Chaney, folks. Here he is right here. Just don’t include the saga of his daughter, Mary Chaney, in the bio pic after the old fart passes away ( hopefully before I hit the post comment button) and it will work.

Pin-brained, young bigots are bad enough, but senile ones are repulsive.
javila
Me thinks he protests too much…

Talk about a slow news day when Queerty scours the bowels of the internet for a non-story about a nobody in Italy.
Giancarlo85
Serie A is full of this shit. And Wiseass thinks it’s a non-story. No, I don’t think so. There are millions who follow Serie A, so when someone this important says something stupid it will have a negative impact.
Pablo Maine
just means he is a self hating gay
Bill Ligon
Sir, you ton’t have a thing to worry about in that department.

Carlo Tavecchio’s bald head would attract magpies.

@JerseyMike: Those tiny, tiny hands.

Carlo Tavecchio.
I have something to say to you.
Wild horses wouldn’t draw me to you.
You are such a closed minded bigoted individual.
@Jack Walter. Perfect description.
Alistair Wiseman
@Giancarlo85:
Still having a hard time sticking to your word I see. Is there ever going to be a time you will do what you previously announced to everybody?
Giancarlo85
Wiseass is a experiencing dementia. This is what conservatives go through. As your mind disintegrates you become more right wing and senile. Fortunately most of us will not suffer from the mental condition known as conservatism.
Christopher Stamm
Bitch please ain’t nobody want you old wrinkly balls haha
GayEGO
No problem here! Maybe he can get a dog to lick his penis.
Poncho Sanchez
To be fair, there is a smattering of “daddy complex” gays that would bed down with him, but that still doesn’t excuse what he said. Good riddance to bad trash.
BlueRoyale
@Giancarlo85: Indeed.
Also, it’s how his case has been somehow magically bent to accuse Italian gay community of heterophoby (Italian Gay bashers love the term so much) that makes it relevant right now in Italy. Expecially when it has been politicized, while the Italian Parliament is soon to discuss a very controversial law about civil partnerships. So yeah, Alistair not-so-Wiseman, it is relevant. You just didn’t know it.
Alistair Wiseman
@BlueRoyale:
I did not realize that Carlo Tavecchio was a household name in America.
I was not aware that the president of the Italian Football Federation had so much sway on the hearts and minds over Americans concerning the issue of homosexuality.
Thank you for letting me know who I should be paying attention to.

Alistair Wiseman, If you don’t like the articles, nor the commenters, nor “the agenda” why do you keep coming back? Mystifying. Why are we so important to you? Inordinate amounts of time are spent on a site that makes your conservative skin crawl. I’m not asking to be mean. What is the pay-off is for a guy, who believes as you do, to come here and relay your contrary thoughts concerning our lives. “The issues of homosexuality”….. Really? That term is so….Focus on the family. The disdain you hold in your heart for us is palpable.
Giancarlo85
And yet wiseass still yaps on. Flapping gums. Not everything centers around Americans. This is what this conservative brownnoser doesn’t quite grasp. There are other countries out there. Then again this bigot just defended ChicFilA do what to you expect?
Giancarlo85
@Giancarlo85: *so what do you expect
1EqualityUSA
disappearing act? (again)
BlueRoyale
@Alistair Wiseman: Well, to put it as agent Mulder would: “We are not alone”. I advice you to get out of your room, once in a while. The world didn’t end with the Pillars of Hercules, nor it does with your house doorstep.
1EqualityUSA
“Beyond the pillars of Hercules” equals over the rainbow, the place between reality and beyond.
BlueRoyale, what do you mean by this comment. Alistair is at Temple right now, so he’s unavailable to comment until late Sunday evening.
Alistair Wiseman
@1EqualityUSA:
As you have noticed, I do not respond to every post concerning something that I have previously written. Sometimes I probably do not see them and at other times the comment is so vapid that it does not warrant a response.
You asked a fair question,”If you don’t like the articles, nor the commenters, nor “the agenda” why do you keep coming back?” I could ask you or any of the other commenters why they feel the need to post a response. I don’t like echo chambers, groupthink and the automatons that are so proud to be part of a diversity-loving community, but have no idea what diversity actually means.
As you may know, I was once one of those people. I voted for Dukakis in ’88, and Clinton in ’92 and ’96. I used to make the same comments that I read here on Queerty.
You stated, “Inordinate amounts of time are spent on a site that makes your conservative skin crawl.” Not true. Liberalism is so prevalent in our society that any conservative who feels that way is in for a world of disappoint and misery. I have liberals in my own family that I love very much and I like to think they love me as well.
You stated, “The disdain you hold in your heart for us is palpable.” I’m sorry you see it that way. I don’t. I have many gay people in my life (including my boyfriend) that I love very much. My disdain is not for gay people, it is for an ideology that I do not agree with (any more).
Thanks for the question. 🙂
1EqualityUSA
So you would vote for a person who will change the Supreme Court, undoing the progress we made? Scalia ‘n’ friends are not helpful to LGBT families. They do not see us as equal. Our families would be denied 1300 rights that heterosexual couples would be granted. This does true harm to our community.
BlueRoyale
@1EqualityUSA: Actually, that’s not the real meaning. In ancient times it was believed that the world was flat, and that it ended at the Pillars of Hercules, which is the Strait of Gibraltar. Beyond that you would fall from Earth. There was nothing. Later on it was believed that beyond the pillars, there were only sea monsters: it was the end of the world as it was known, thus no men should venture there. And apparently, for Alistair, the world has very narrow frontiers just the same: beyond USA you would fall from Earth.
1EqualityUSA
mmm. In modern speak, as it is used today, it’s the equivalent of dreamland, an unattainable place. I guess it morphed. Thanks for the explanation. When commenters say “Americans” it is somehow understood to mean citizens of the U.S. when in actuality the term Americans encompass the entire continent, both North and South. So much for falling off of the Earth at the border. We would see some lovely jungles and vegetation before taking our plunge. The Sea Monsters could be featured on Animal Planet.
BlueRoyale
@1EqualityUSA: 🙂
Yes, that’s why I usually try to carefully use “USA” (as I did earlier) rather than America: besides being more correct, it’s also respectful to other countries in the American continent. As for modern speech, I’m actually Italian, and we have a somehow closer bond with ancient history and myths. For us, the meaning of that expression didn’t change.
1EqualityUSA
Our myths, espoused by Republicans, is that they are better for the U.S. economy. I like your myths more.
Daggerman
…why do we get such ugly cretins revealing idiotic rubbish like this!–I must say this though: I feel sad for those who are lonely who we couldn’t care anything for…I mean what do they expect a connection with people. He shouts: stay away from me! You’ve got to laugh…he’ll definitely be safe..
